Our East Riding MHST are working with young people in schools to help them set SMART goals – that means goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.

Why? Because learning how to set realistic goals builds confidence, supports emotional wellbeing, and helps young people take positive steps toward what matters most to them.

Whether it's managing stress, improving friendships, or building learning habits, SMART goal setting helps young people feel more in control. 💪✨

We love getting out in the community!

Our MHST joined forces with the 0-19 School Nursing Team at one of Biggin Hill’s SEND Coffee Mornings this week. ☕

Together, we had some brilliant conversations with parents and carers — sharing information about the support available in schools for children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing. 💬

🤝 Joint working like this helps us connect with families, answer questions, and raise awareness of how we can help — from emotional wellbeing and anxiety to self-esteem and everyday challenges.

Big thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat! 💬👋 Biggin Hill Primary Academy Hull Health Visitors & School Nurses - IPHNS

As exam season comes to an end, it's important to consider what practical things you can do if you don't get the results you were hoping for

👉 Reflect. ‘Failing’ exams does not make you a failure. You may have to take a different route to achieve your goals but setbacks can increase resilience and lead to unexpected and exciting opportunities. Take time to experience your emotions instead of making a snap decision.

👉 Explore other options. Resitting an exam, repeating a year, appealing a grade, entering clearing, taking a gap year or considering different courses, careers, apprenticeships and internships are just some of the options available to you.

👉 Ask for some support. Discuss your disappointment with those around you. Consider who you can contact for more advice; a teacher or tutor, a careers adviser or service.

👉 Care for yourself. Regardless of your results, you’ve worked really hard and this achievement should be rewarded. Practice self-care by planning something positive for results day.

No child should have to face bullying alone — and as a parent or carer, you can make a big difference.

If your child is being bullied — whether at school, in the community, or online — it can be hard to know what to do. Here are some ways you can support them:

✅ Encourage them to talk — listen calmly and take what they say seriously
✅ Help them identify a trusted adult at school they can talk to
✅ Teach them to walk tall and project confidence
✅ Help them practice ways to ignore the bully and walk away safely
✅ Remind them never to retaliate physically
✅ Encourage them to stand up for others and be a good friend
✅ Support them in finding their true friends — those who make them feel safe and valued
✅ Get involved — ask about your school’s anti-bullying or violence prevention programs
✅ If it feels safe and appropriate, help your child explore why someone might bully — understanding isn’t excusing, but it can help process the experience
✅ Above all — keep the conversation going. Let them know they can always come to you

Together, we can help children build resilience, confidence, and safe environments to thrive in. Share this post with your young people - it could make a BIG difference!

🚨 Bullying can happen anytime, anywhere — and it’s never okay.
We’re seeing too many young people facing bullying, both in person and online. The impact is real: on mental health, self-esteem, and even safety.

Have you heard about our worry monsters?👾

These colourful, cuddly creatures aren't just adorable — they’re a special tool to help children share their worries by "feeding" them to their monster. 👹 It's a fun, creative way to encourage emotional expression and build resilience.

We’re so proud of our young learners for opening up, supporting each other, and reminding us all that it’s okay to talk about our feelings. 💬💖

The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) had a fantastic time at the Bridlington Community Showcase Event last week!

It was brilliant to connect with so many residents, groups, and partners — all coming together to celebrate and strengthen our local community.

A big shoutout to the Active Communities - Community Build team for hosting such a vibrant and inspiring event. We loved sharing information about mental health support in schools, chatting about wellbeing, and hearing your thoughts on what matters most in our community.

Together, we’re building a healthier, happier, and more active Bridlington 💪🌈
