I loved preparing this herbal formula to support the respiratory system for a client with asthma. 🌿

This formula contains Sitopaladi powder as the main ingredient - a traditional and popular formula with herbs such as bamboo manna, pippali, cinnamon and cardamom to help reduce congestion in the respiratory tract with its gentle expectorant and bronchodilating qualities.

In combination with the Sitopaladi powder I added other supportive herbs to further support the airways: Guduchi, Tulsi, Pippali, Cinnamon, Licorice and Triphala. 💚

Modern research confirms that Tulsi increase vital lung capacity. Pippali is viewed in Ayurveda as rejuvenative for the lungs and acts as a brochodilator.

Cinnamon balances both Vata and Kapha, the two main Dosha's involved in asthma and improved circulation in the tissues.

Licorice was chosen for it's unctuous and liquifying properties. It is also traditionally used to improve symptoms of wheezing. 🌱

Last, but not least... Triphala improves digestion and the absorbability of other herbs within the formula and additionally acts as a mild
expectorant to help clear the lungs.

In addition to these capsules that I prepared, I also recommended 's Dashamula capsules, a wonderful formula that is gently warming and rejuvenative in nature and supports the lungs by reducing Vata and Kapha. 💛

Skin purifying herbs to reduce a Kapha-dominant eczema, characterised by itching. 🌿

This formula contains herbs that are mainly Kapha and Pitta reducing in nature, including Ayurvedic herbs Neem, Manjishtha, Bhringaraj, Turmeric and Tulsi. I've also added Burdock and Nettle from the Western herbal pharmacopoeia. Burdock is wonderful for eczema and detoxing the lymphatic system and as my client also suffers from seasonal allergies, the Nettle purifiers the blood and skin, but also acts as a natural anti-histamine. 💚

Celebrating yesterday's (I'm a day late!) with three books that changed my life:

Charaka Samhita, one of the foundational Ayurvedic Sanskrit texts that survived since ancient times, compiled by Charaka around 100BCE-200CE. The Charaka Samhita is a series of 8 books that contains the principles of Ayurveda, causes and treatment of diseases, detail on dietary and herbal recommendations, embryology and anatomy, herbal medicines and how to deal with the accidental ingestion of poisons, healthy living and many other fascinating topics. This book has been in my life for 20 years, I purchased it for my Ayurvedic degree course, along with the Sushruta Samhita, Ashtanga Hrdaya and Ashtanga Sangraha - other classics of Ayurveda.

Awakening Shakti by Sally Kempton is a gem of a book that I discovered in 2018 and gave context and a tradition to the style of meditation I had been practicing now for nearly 20 years. 💙

Glorious Alchemy by Dr Kavitha Chinnaiyan is a recent addition to my book collection from last year. It is a beautiful book on the Sri Lalita Sahasranāma, the 1000 names of the mother goddess Tripura Sundari which I'm currently learning. Each name in this 45min long chant has a deep meaning, philosophy and interpretation that changes your view on life and consciousness. ✨ Sri Matre Namaha! 🔺

An Ayurvedic herbal formula that has successfully supported a client's menstrual cycle to reduce excessive menstrual bleeding (mennorhagia).

Heavy menstrual bleeding is viewed as an excess of Pitta Dosha, where excess heat causes an opening of the channels, leading to heavy bleeding. In Ayurveda heavy menstrual bleeding is known as Raktapradara ('rakta' or blood and 'pradara' or discharge) and Asrgdara ('asrk' or blood and 'dara' or stream) .Ths

This gentle formula started showing it's positive effects over a course of 2 menstrual cycles, gently reducing heavy menstrual flow
It contains Ashoka (Saraca Indica) known for reducing heavy menstrual bleeding, pain and congestion in the uterus. I added Shatavari for its balancing effect in the hormones and menstrual cycle - although widely known as a source of phytoestrogen, Shatavari contains hormone precursor that balance both progesterone and oestrogen. It is also a beautifully cooling Pitta remedy and helpful in reducing PMS symptoms. Sariva is a fragrant, cooling herb that balances Pitta in the menstrual system and so is Manjishtha. Punarnava was added to help with the formation of healthy endometrium and help prevent the breakdown of the blood-clotting protein Fibrin, which can reduce heavy bleeding. And then a small amount of Triphala to improve digestion and assimilation of the formula.

New launch for those that are able to see me in-person in Wimbledon: The Kaya Programme 💛

Start your healing journey through a selection of Ayurvedic treatments specifically chosen by Colette, with her 15 years of Ayurvedic healing experience, to support and bring balance to your body and mind.

This programme starts with a 30min Ayurvedic consultation (including pulse and tongue diagnosis) to determine your Doshic imbalance, followed by 4 treatment sessions of 60mins each. For each session, Colette will carefully choose gently effective and targeted treatments, from the wide selection of Ayurvedic treatments that she offers, to bring balance and increased vitality.

There is so much more to Ayurveda than a relaxing massage with warm oil (although an Abhyanga is pretty amazing!). Did you know that there are Ayurvedic body treatments that can have a deeply transformative effect on the mind and emotions? Or that there are Ayurvedic treatments that balance digestion and reduce bloating, or nourish the emotional heart, or cleanse the sinuses, or nourishes dry eyes ... and so many more!

The word 'Kaya' was chosen for this programme, as it translates from Sanskrit as 'body'. In some contexts it can also refer to the 'mind' or 'heart'. As Ayurvedic treatments can have such a profound effect on the body, mind and emotions, it is the perfect name.

A nourishing formula created for a client to balance Vata and improve energy levels and cognitive function, amongst other indications such as supporting healthy menstruation.

I like the idea of layering the herbs, rather than viewing it as creating a mixture of the herbs. ✨

Here I've layered Ashwagandha, an amazing adaptogen, with Lion's Mane (borrowed from Traditional Chinese Medicine) to soothe the digestive tract and support the nervous system), along with Maca (an Peruvian adaptogen),
Sariva (nourishes the blood tissue), Guduchi (supports the liver) and Medhya (mind herbs) such as Gotu Kola and Shankhapushpi.

It is nice to create some lovely new formulas for the start of the New Year!

Wishing everyone a joyful and inspired 2025. 🌱💛

I've been preparing a Shashtika Shali Pinda Sweda (Sanskrit for 100 year old rice poultices for a fomentation/sweating/heating therapy), also known as Navarakizhi (Kerala name) weekly for a client. 💛 I too received this treatment in Kerala when I visited some years ago.

The poultices are created with cotton filled with softly cooked rice, whilst at the same time a milk decoction with herbs are prepared. In this case I've been adding Ashwagandha and Shatavari to the milk, for a Brmhana (building, nourishing) effect.

✨ During the treatment, the poultices are dipped into the hot milk decoction and then used to massage the body with. It applies a gentle, warm, soft pressure on the skin, muscles and joints of the body, bringing warmth, improved circulation, strength, improved flexibility and a reduction of pain to the body. It is one of the best treatments for musculoskeletal conditions!

I often say to the client that this is partly how Cleopatra must have felt having a milk bath, due to the milk decoction being used in this treatment.

It takes a bit of commitment and extra effort to offer this treatment to a client - it involves me allowing extra time in the morning before I leave the house to cook rice, wrap it in poultices which are then wrapped in tin foil to keep them warm on my journey to work. At the same time I sommer the milk decoction for at least half an hour (the longer it is simmered, the more milk evaporates, making it less watery to work with), before carrying it out of the house in a flask. 🤭 But it is worth it for the comfort and results that this treatment brings. 💙

Back due to popular demand ✨ I'm so looking forward to hosting the wonderful for a final Sri Yantra drawing of the year during full moon on Sunday, Dec 15th 4-4:15pm GMT.

💙 To book, see link in bio. 👆

Join us for a close look at the process of creating the Sri Yantra using Sarah's unique step-by-step method taught to her directly from Sri Amritananda of Devipuram.

During the class you will make two drawings, the first will focus on the central triangles of the Sri Yantra, the second will be the entire Sri Yantra, beginning with the inner triangles and concluding with the outer rings of petals and gates.

Once you have taken this class you will have the foundation for a daily practice of drawing the freehand Sri Yantra. 🪷

The Sri Yantra is an ancient symbol used by the rishis to contemplate the cosmos. Each time you create this freehand sri yantra in the early morning, your inner world remembers its state of wholeness and contentment. This happiness exudes into your outer world for the rest of the day.
