Beginning therapy can feel like a big step, and feeling understood from the very start matters. At Sereno Therapy, we take great care in how assessments are carried out, because a thoughtful and thorough assessment helps set the tone for the whole therapy journey.

Our assessment sessions are designed to give you space to talk through your concerns in detail, ask questions, and gain a clearer understanding of what support may be most helpful for you. We focus on building a shared understanding of your experiences and agreeing on a plan that feels right, at a pace that suits you.

Assessments at Sereno Therapy are delivered online by experienced clinicians working across CBT, EMDR, IPT, Counselling, and MBCT. This means you can access high quality, evidence based care from the comfort of your own home.

We are pleased to introduce Mariya, one of our experienced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) therapists at Sereno Therapy.

Mariya holds a Master’s degree in Health Psychology and has many years of experience working in mental health. She has specialised in CBT since 2017 and supports clients through both short-term and longer-term therapy, always taking a thoughtful and individualised approach.

Mariya works with a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder. She also has particular experience supporting people living with long-term health conditions, such as chronic pain, medically unexplained symptoms and cancer. Her work reflects a deep understanding of how physical health and emotional wellbeing are closely connected.

A key part of Mariya’s practice is her interest in culturally informed therapy. She has a strong focus on adapting CBT to better meet the needs of clients from South Asian backgrounds and offers therapy in both English and Punjabi, helping clients feel understood and supported within their cultural context.

Alongside her clinical work, Mariya is also a qualified CBT Supervisor, supporting therapists with their professional development and reflective practice. This contributes to the high standard of care she brings to her client work.

Mariya is known for her calm, compassionate and collaborative style. She works closely with clients to help them better understand their experiences, develop practical coping strategies and move towards meaningful and sustainable change.

If you are considering therapy and feel that Mariya might be the right therapist for you, we would be happy to help you take the next step.

21/03/2026

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is a moment to reflect on the importance of equality, respect, and inclusion in all areas of life, including mental health care. Feeling seen, heard, and understood is essential for emotional wellbeing, and this begins with being treated with dignity and respect.

Experiences of discrimination, exclusion, or inequality can have a lasting impact on mental health. They may contribute to stress, anxiety, low mood, or feelings of isolation, and can sometimes make it harder to seek support. Everyone deserves access to psychological care that recognises their individual experiences and values their identity.

At Sereno Therapy, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and respectful therapeutic space for all. We understand that each person’s background, culture, and life experiences shape how they experience the world and their mental health. Our approach is personalised and collaborative, ensuring therapy is tailored to your needs and delivered with care, sensitivity, and understanding.

Our therapists work across a range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR, counselling, Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). We offer accessible online therapy, with no waiting lists and a straightforward booking system, so support is available when you need it.

On this day, we reaffirm our commitment to equality and diversity, and to offering therapy where everyone feels welcome, respected, and supported.

20/03/2026

World Sleep Day is a reminder of how important sleep is for both our physical and emotional health. When we sleep well, we are better able to manage stress, regulate our emotions, and cope with everyday challenges. When sleep is disrupted, it can quickly begin to affect how we think, feel, and function.

Insomnia is a common difficulty and may involve trouble falling asleep, waking frequently during the night, waking too early, or feeling unrefreshed despite spending enough time in bed. Ongoing sleep problems can leave people feeling exhausted, irritable, and less able to concentrate, and they often occur alongside anxiety, low mood, stress, or other mental health concerns.

The relationship between sleep and mental health is closely connected. Poor sleep can worsen emotional distress, while worry, low mood, or heightened stress can make it harder to sleep. This can create a cycle that feels difficult to break without support.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for insomnia is an evidence-based approach that helps address the thoughts, habits, and patterns that contribute to ongoing sleep difficulties. CBT focuses on practical strategies to support healthier sleep routines, reduce mental and physical arousal, and improve overall sleep quality in a structured and supportive way.

At Sereno Therapy, we offer personalised CBT for insomnia delivered by experienced therapists. Our approach recognises the close link between sleep and mental wellbeing and supports clients in working towards more restful, restorative sleep through accessible online therapy.

If sleep difficulties are affecting your wellbeing, support is available. You are very welcome to contact us or book an appointment using the details below.

St Patrick’s Day is often a time to celebrate connection, shared traditions, and a sense of togetherness. Moments like these can gently remind us of how important belonging and connection are for our emotional wellbeing.

Feeling connected to others, to our culture, or to a wider community can support our mental health in meaningful ways. A sense of belonging can help us feel more grounded, understood, and supported, particularly during times of change or uncertainty. When these connections feel strained or missing, it is natural to feel more vulnerable or emotionally overwhelmed.

Taking time to reflect on what helps us feel connected can be an important part of caring for our mental wellbeing. This might involve nurturing relationships, acknowledging our personal or cultural identity, or simply allowing space for shared experiences that feel meaningful to us.

St Patrick’s Day offers a gentle opportunity to pause and consider how connection and inclusion can play a role in supporting emotional health, both for ourselves and for those around us.

If you would like to learn more about our therapy services or explore support options, you are very welcome to contact us or book an appointment using the details below.

Weekends can offer a valuable pause from the demands of the week, but true rest does not always happen automatically. Self care is often less about doing more and more about making small, intentional choices that support your wellbeing.

Here are six simple and realistic ways to care for yourself today.

Create a sleep routine
Try to go to bed and wake up at roughly the same time, even at weekends. A consistent sleep routine supports mood, energy and emotional balance, helping you feel more settled and rested.

Eat mindfully
Slow down with meals where possible. Paying attention to hunger, fullness and enjoyment can help reconnect you with your body and reduce stress around food.

Set and protect boundaries
Self care sometimes means saying no. Whether it is limiting work emails, social commitments or emotional demands, clear boundaries protect your mental health.

Disconnect intentionally
Taking short breaks from screens and constant notifications can help calm your mind. Even a short period of disconnection can make space for clarity and rest.

Organise your space and your thoughts
Tidying your environment or writing down what is on your mind can reduce feelings of overwhelm and help you feel more in control.

Make time for something you enjoy
Pleasure is not a luxury. Reading, walking, listening to music or spending time with people you care about can restore energy and emotional wellbeing.

At Sereno Therapy, we believe self care and emotional support work best together. If you are feeling overwhelmed, low or stuck, therapy can provide a safe and supportive space to explore what you need and build healthier coping strategies.

10/03/2026

Brain Awareness Week is an opportunity to reflect on how our minds work and how much our emotional wellbeing is shaped by the health of our brain. Many people notice changes in mood, concentration, sleep or stress levels long before they realise these experiences are connected to how the brain processes information and responds to daily pressures.

At Sereno Therapy, we support clients in understanding the link between thoughts, emotions and physical responses, helping them make sense of why certain patterns appear and how to shift them in a healthier direction. When you learn how your brain reacts under stress or low mood, it becomes easier to build coping strategies that feel manageable and effective.

If you have been experiencing anxiety, low mood, difficulty concentrating or feeling overwhelmed, therapy can provide a safe space to explore these experiences and understand the science behind them. Approaches such as CBT, EMDR, IPT, Counselling and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy can support you in strengthening emotional resilience and developing new ways of responding to challenges.

If you would like to learn more about how therapy can help you better understand your mind and improve your wellbeing, you can get in touch or book an appointment at a time that suits you.

Pregnancy, birth and the months that follow can be both meaningful and challenging. Many people expect this period to feel joyful, yet the reality often brings emotional changes that can be difficult to talk about. If you have been feeling overwhelmed, unsettled or unlike yourself, you are not alone.

At Sereno Therapy, we support individuals through the emotional adjustments that come with pregnancy and early parenthood. Our therapists understand how feeding challenges, sleep loss, changing routines and shifting expectations can impact mental wellbeing. These experiences are common, valid and deserving of compassionate support.

Many people seek help for experiences such as:
• Persistent low mood or tearfulness
• Worry, tension or heightened anxiety
• Irritability and emotional ups and downs
• Fatigue and difficulty concentrating
• Appetite or sleep changes
• Intrusive or distressing thoughts
• Feeling disconnected from your baby
• A sense of guilt, inadequacy or isolation
• Loss of interest in daily activities
• Physical discomfort without a clear medical cause

These symptoms can feel unsettling, but they are also highly treatable with the right support.

How We Can Help

Our therapists specialise in perinatal mental health and offer evidence-based psychological therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Together, we work with you to understand what you are experiencing, develop effective coping strategies and rebuild emotional steadiness. Therapy is tailored to your needs and paced gently, with a focus on helping you feel more grounded, confident and supported throughout your perinatal journey.

If you are finding this period harder than expected, reaching out is a strength. Support is available, and improvement is possible.

Spending time in nature can have a powerful impact on emotional wellbeing. Even small moments of noticing the world around you can help you feel more grounded, present and connected. World Wildlife Day is a reminder that the natural world is not only beautiful, but also deeply supportive for our mental health.

Engaging with the outdoors does not need to be complicated. Simple moments of awareness can help regulate stress, settle racing thoughts and bring a sense of calm into your day.

How nature can support your wellbeing

• Encourages slower, more mindful breathing which supports relaxation
• Helps reduce feelings of pressure and overwhelm
• Improves focus by giving your mind a gentle break from daily demands
• Creates moments of perspective when life feels busy or heavy
• Strengthens your sense of belonging and connection to the world around you

Ways to incorporate nature into your day

• Notice the sounds, textures and movement around you on a short walk
• Sit by a window and observe the light, weather or wildlife
• Spend a few minutes in a green space without distractions
• Bring natural elements indoors such as plants or flowers
• Try a brief grounding practice by focusing on the physical sensations beneath your feet

At Sereno Therapy, we often integrate mindfulness approaches into therapy to help clients reconnect with their environment and cultivate steadiness. Whether you are managing anxiety, low mood, stress or periods of transition, learning to pause and notice the world around you can be a valuable support.

If you would like therapeutic guidance tailored to your needs, our accredited clinicians offer CBT, EMDR, IPT, Counselling and MBCT online.

Many people find themselves managing ongoing stress, anxiety or low mood, even when life appears to be going well on the surface. Over time, these experiences can feel exhausting and difficult to shift, especially when patterns seem to repeat.

We have shared a new blog that explores how Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, often known as MBCT, can support emotional wellbeing in a gentle and practical way. MBCT brings together talking therapy and mindfulness practice to help people notice their thoughts and feelings with greater clarity and balance, rather than feeling overwhelmed or stuck in unhelpful cycles.

The blog explains how MBCT can help you
• develop a healthier relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions
• reduce stress and anxiety over time
• build emotional resilience and self awareness
• support long term wellbeing rather than short term coping

It also outlines what an MBCT programme involves and who it may be helpful for, particularly if you experience ongoing stress, anxiety or periods of low mood.

If you are curious about mindfulness or are looking for a structured and evidence based way to support your mental health, you may find this article helpful.

You can read the full blog here:
https://serenotherapy.com/discover-mbct-how-mindfulness-based-cognitive-therapy-supports-stress-anxiety-and-long-term-resilience/

At Sereno Therapy, our MBCT programme is delivered online by experienced and accredited therapists. We also offer CBT, EMDR, Counselling and Interpersonal Therapy, all provided with care, professionalism and flexibility.
