‼️WE’RE STILL HERE‼️

It’s been a long time since a little update from us at Taylor Training, but lots has happened in the last year.

Taylor Training has continued to grow since we started nearly 3 years ago, and we’ve no plans on stopping.

Our relationship with Coombe House school continues. Running their monthly training session and we’ve recently teamed up again with Port Regis school after a brief time away.

The above photos are of a Shallow Pool Emergency Rescue Award, run by Elijah, at Woodbury Park in Exeter.

Over the coming months we will be supervising the Dorset Mud Run in May. We are also running a lifeguard course at The Royal United Hospital in Bath and training some of the staff at Bruton Primary School, to help keep their in school swimming sessions running.

On top of all our water work, we’re continuing to push our First Aid training, from First Aid at work to basic life support courses.

There much more to come later on in the year and we will be sure to keep everyone up to date on what’s happening!

🚨COURSE REMINDER🚨

we have two Open Water Lifeguard opportunities over the Summer. This award can be used for non tidal open water venues such as water parks and lakes. A really good qualification to have if you're looking for seasonal work or enjoy the outdoors. ☀

The first course is the standard 3 day Open Water Lifeguard qualification. This course covers the skills required to make rescues in open water, an understanding of open water venues and the risks they present, the role of a lifeguard, as well as the first aid knowledge you may require as an Open Water Lifeguard (including CPR).

The second course is a 1 day course for existing National Pool Lifeguard Qualification holders (Gen 9 or 10). This course allows you to use the knowledge and skills you have learnt in your NPLQ, and transfer them to open water. Across the day we will cover risks and hazards of open water. Then the in-water techniques that are used in Open Water Lifeguarding. Using your existing CPR and first aid knowledge, alongside the new skills learnt on the course, you then complete the Open Water Lifeguard assessment at the end of the day.

NPLQ Trainer / Assessors after successful completion of this course can become an OWL TA via Tahdah.

🛟May and some of June🛟

We started May with a trip to Bristol Royal Infirmary. This was a great experience for us, working with the physiotherapists at BRI. During the session we discussed and practiced safe handling of unconscious casualties and how to deal with suspected spinal injuries.🛟

Next on the agenda was some first aid talks to the students at Birchfield Primary School. Covering CPR, choking, bleeding, recovery position and how to call the emergency services. Thank you to everyone at Birchfield for having us and being so engaged with the talks. 🩹

Barry popped over to Vobster for a swim in preparation of our Open Water Lifeguard courses in August. Get in touch to book. 🛟

To start June Elijah went over to Bruton Primary School to work with the teachers and deliver a NRASTC course so they can safely use their outdoor swimming facility. Another great opportunity and thank you to Bruton Primary for inviting us to deliver your training. Looking forward to working together again soon.🏊

🚨🛟April🛟🚨

What a brilliant month so far!

Started off with our Easter NPLQ course at Port Regis school. A great course with our 4 candidates who stuck at it all week. Another 100% pass rate. Thank you to our candidates, assessor and Port Regis school for making the week a success.

On Sunday 21st we headed over to Vobster Quay Inland Diving Centre for an Open Water Lifeguard assessment. Another fantastic afternoon at Vobster, with all candidates passing. Glad the sun stayed with us for the duration!

We are currently in the process of organising summer lifeguarding courses - both Open Water and National Pool Lifeguarding. Make sure to keep an eye out over the next few months.

Meet your trainers;

Barry, has 35 years leisure experience and has worked with many companies and trusts during his time in leisure. He has taken the NPLQ exam over 10 times and has been a Trainor Assessor for well over 12 years. Barry also out dates the NPLQ, as when he first became a lifeguard it was called the RLSS Pool Lifeguard Bronze Medallion, that later became the NPLQ. Barry brings lots of experience to our courses and insight to the role of a lifeguard.

Elijah, with nearly 5 years leisure experience took his NPLQ just a week after turning 16 and jumped straight into work at a local Sports Centre. He then became a Trainer Assessor not long after turning 18. Taylor Training was born soon after completing his TA training. Over the last few years of being a TA, Elijah has worked with multiple sites to help improve their lifeguard standards and has run multiple courses with 100% success rate.

Heidi, is an experienced local lifeguard who helps us bring real poolside experiences to our courses. As a qualified swim teacher, Heidi helps us understand what other areas of the poolside team expect from lifeguards. Normally the most smiley out of the three, Heidi helps bring a little bit of laughter to our courses as well.

📕Story Time📕
A year ago last week, we were asked to go and conduct some monthly training at a school in Shaftesbury. What started as 3 sessions, has become an ongoing relationship. We have run 2 courses and conducted over 12 months worth of lifeguard training with Dorset Centre of Excellence.

And so, Taylor Training was born. A year on from those first sessions we now have 2 schools, a sports centre, an open water venue and hospitals that we are working with. 2024 has started off strong with much more to come.

Coming up soon is our April National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. We are running this at Port Regis School, which has some great facilities to offer and we are lucky enough to be able to use them for the week.
