🌦️ World Meteorological Day – How Weather Can Affect Your Body

Today is World Meteorological Day, a day that recognises the impact weather and climate have on our lives.

Many people notice that changes in weather can affect how their body feels. Shifts in barometric pressure, temperature, humidity or approaching storms can sometimes trigger symptoms such as:

• Joint stiffness or aches
• Back or neck pain flare-ups
• Headaches or migraines
• Increased muscle tension

While the exact reason isn’t always fully understood, pressure changes may affect joints, muscles and blood vessels, which can make symptoms more noticeable for some people.

At Wincanton Chiropractic Clinic, we help patients manage these symptoms with treatments such as chiropractic care, physiotherapy and acupuncture, along with advice on movement, posture and lifestyle.

🧠 Brain Awareness Week – Acupuncture & Brain Health

As part of Brain Awareness Week, today we’re highlighting how acupuncture may support brain and neurological health.

Acupuncture is a therapy that involves the gentle insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body to help stimulate the nervous system, improve circulation and support the body’s natural healing processes.

While acupuncture is not a cure for neurological or brain conditions, it can be a helpful complementary therapy alongside medical care, physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
Some people use acupuncture to help support symptoms associated with:

• Headaches and migraines
• Nerve pain
• Stroke recovery
• Stress and anxiety
• Sleep difficulties
• Peripheral neuropathy (nerve symptoms such as tingling or numbness)

At Wincanton Chiropractic Clinic, acupuncture is offered by James and Viviane, who use it as part of a personalised treatment approach to support patients’ overall wellbeing and recovery.

📞 If you’d like to learn more, call Vic or Kirsty on 01963 32986 to book an appointment or speak to the team.

Following on from our IIH post, today’s Brain Awareness Week post is about stroke 🧠
A stroke happens when the blood supply to part of the brain is interrupted.
This can occur either because a blood vessel becomes blocked (ischaemic stroke) or because a blood vessel ruptures (haemorrhagic stroke).
Without oxygen-rich blood, brain cells can become damaged within minutes, which may affect movement, speech, memory and other important functions depending on the area of the brain involved.

Recovery after a stroke often involves neurological rehabilitation to help the brain and body relearn skills and rebuild strength, balance and coordination.

At Wincanton Chiropractic Clinic, our Neurological Physiotherapist, Millie Kerridge, supports patients through tailored rehabilitation programmes. Millie works with individuals recovering from neurological conditions, helping improve mobility, function, and confidence through targeted physiotherapy and evidence-based rehabilitation techniques.

📞 Call us on 01963 32986 to book a FREE 30-minute consultation with Millie and find out how neurological physiotherapy could support your recovery.

☘️ Happy St Patrick’s Day from everyone at Team Wincanton Chiropractic! ☘️

Today we celebrate Saint Patrick's Day, a day that honours Ireland’s patron saint, St Patrick. The day has become a global celebration of Irish culture, community, music, food and of course a little bit of Irish cheer.

Many people enjoy marking the occasion with a traditional pint of Guinness. Interestingly, Guinness has often been nicknamed “liquid bread” thanks to its ingredients such as barley and hops. In moderation, it contains antioxidants similar to those found in red wine and also provides small amounts of iron and B vitamins.
Of course, like everything, it’s best enjoyed sensibly — but it’s nice to know there may be a few positives in that celebratory pint! 🍻

Whether you’re enjoying Irish food, listening to traditional music, wearing something green, or simply spending time with friends and family, we hope you have a wonderful St Patrick’s Day.

From all of us at Wincanton Chiropractic Clinic – have a fantastic day! ☘️

🧠 Brain Awareness Week: Understanding IIH

This week is Brain Awareness Week, a time to raise awareness of neurological conditions and the importance of brain health.

One condition many people haven’t heard of is Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH). IIH occurs when pressure builds up around the brain without an obvious cause. Because the symptoms can closely mimic those of a brain tumour, it is sometimes referred to as a “pseudotumour cerebri.”
Common symptoms can include:
• Persistent headaches
• Visual disturbances
• Nausea
• Painful neck and shoulder tension
For many people living with IIH, the neck and shoulder pain can become a significant part of daily discomfort.

At Wincanton Chiropractic, we often work with patients experiencing neck and shoulder pain associated with neurological conditions or chronic headaches. Chiropractic care can help relieve tension, improve movement, and reduce strain in the neck and upper back.
We’ve also seen positive results when care is combined with massage therapy, as addressing both joint function and muscular tension can provide a more comprehensive approach to relieving discomfort.
If you’re experiencing ongoing neck or shoulder pain, support may be available.

🌙 World Sleep Day – Friday 13th March 2026

Sleep is one of the most important pillars of good health, yet many of us struggle to get the restful night our bodies truly need. World Sleep Day is a reminder of just how essential quality sleep is for our physical health, mental wellbeing and overall quality of life.

During sleep, the body repairs muscles and tissues, the brain processes memories and emotions, and the nervous system resets for the day ahead. Poor sleep can contribute to increased stress, fatigue, aches and pains, reduced concentration and a weakened immune system.

At Wincanton Chiropractic Clinic, our therapists work together to help support better sleep by addressing the underlying issues that may be disturbing your rest.

✨ Alison, Brian and Christopher – Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic adjustments can help improve spinal alignment, reduce tension in the nervous system and ease joint or muscle discomfort that may be affecting your ability to relax and sleep comfortably.
✨ Tanya – Massage & Reflexology
Massage therapy and reflexology promote deep relaxation, improve circulation and help reduce stress levels, encouraging the body to wind down naturally before sleep.
✨ Hannah – Sports Massage & Lymphatic Drainage
These treatments can release muscle tension, reduce inflammation and support recovery, helping your body feel more relaxed and comfortable at night.
✨ Viviane – Acupuncture, Cupping & Moxibustion
Traditional therapies that can help balance the body, calm the nervous system and promote deeper, more restorative sleep.
✨ James – Acupuncture
Acupuncture may help regulate sleep patterns, reduce stress and support the body’s natural rhythms.
✨ Millie – Neurological Physiotherapy
Specialist physiotherapy can help improve movement, reduce discomfort and support nervous system health, which can all contribute to better sleep quality.

If aches, tension, stress or discomfort are keeping you awake at night, our team may be able to help support a more restful and restorative sleep.
Sleep well, feel better, and wake ready for the day ahead. 🌙 call us 01963 32986

This morning Alison and Kirsty enjoyed a wonderful pre-celebration of International Women's Day at the Royal Bath & West Showground. 🌸

It was such an enjoyable and inspiring event, bringing together women from across the community to share experiences, ideas and encouragement.

The morning began with a warm welcome and introduction from Rebecca Pow, followed by a fantastic lineup of speakers who shared their journeys, insights and practical tips to take away:

✨ Janet Montgomery – High Sheriff of Somerset
✨ Lisa Agosta – Fuss Free Foodie
✨ Alice Fox-Pitt – Fox-Pitt Eventing
✨ Tessa Armstrong – Voices for Life
✨ Alexia Robinson – Love British Food

This year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” was a powerful reminder that by sharing knowledge, supporting others and contributing to our communities, we all grow stronger together.

It was truly inspiring to hear everyone’s stories and the passion behind the work they do.
A lovely morning celebrating women, community and inspiration ahead of International Women’s Day. 💙

Endometriosis Awareness Month!
Painful periods are not something you should just “push through.”
If your cycle includes:
🔴 Severe cramping that stops you working or socialising
🔴 Heavy bleeding or passing clots
🔴 Periods lasting longer than 7 days
🔴 Pain that radiates into your back, hips or legs
🔴 Pain during intimacy
🔴 Bloating that makes you look months pregnant (“endo belly”)
🔴 Exhaustion around your cycle
🔴 Digestive flare-ups before or during your period

You are not being dramatic. And you are not alone.
Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women, yet many wait years for diagnosis.
Acupuncture can help by reducing inflammation, improving pelvic circulation, calming the nervous system and supporting hormonal balance — helping to reduce pain intensity and regulate cycles over time.
During Endometriosis Awareness Month, I’m offering £5 off each consultation for women with a confirmed diagnosis experiencing painful periods at the Wincanton Chiropractic.

If this sounds familiar, I welcome you to book a consultation to discuss whether acupuncture may support you. Please contact the clinic to book in with Viviane on 01963 32986.
