The Anatomy of a Wrinkle (and why your Daily Skincare does matter!)
Wrinkles don’t appear overnight — and they’re rarely caused by just one thing.
They are formed by a combination of collagen loss, repeated muscle movement, sun exposure, oxidative stress and reduced skin repair. What’s important to understand is that just as many of these processes start from below the surface as well as AT the surface.
Daily antioxidants such as Vitamin C help neutralise free radicals that damage collagen.
Consistent UV protection reduces one of the biggest drivers of premature skin ageing — even in the UK, even in winter (Remember? Even when you cannot see the sun, the sun can still see you, its still there….)
Medical treatments can help soften established lines, but daily skin care is what slows their formation in the first place. (Hint!! We must brush our teeth every day, whether we see the dentist twice a year or not!)
That’s why I often say: the best results come from patients who treat their skin well every day, not those looking for a once-a-year solution.
Key Takeaways (TL; DR)
- Wrinkles are biological, not sudden
- Daily care influences long-term outcomes
- Treatments should support good habits, not replace them
