Wimborne Minster, located in Dorset, has a rich history dating back to the 8th century. The Minster is dedicated to St. Cuthburga, sister of Ina King of Wessex, who founded a Benedictine Nunnery around 705 AD.

The church was substantially restored by the Victorians but most of the building dates back to the 12th century. Notably, in 871, Alfred the Great buried his brother Ethelred here after a battle near Cranborne.

Edward the Confessor founded a college of secular canons at the site in 1043. The Minster church is renowned for its chained library and the tomb of King Ethelred, brother of Alfred the Great.

Over the centuries, it has undergone various changes and restorations, including becoming a Royal Peculiar in 1318 and being exempt from diocesan jurisdiction until 1846.
