Milk Choices
Least Healthy:
Oat Milk & Rice Milk: high in glucose & cause a blood glucose spike. Often contains emulsifiers and gums.
Plant milks that have been sweetened with sugar, agave & other forms of sweetener.
Moderately Healthy:
Pea Milk: gives less of a glucose spike compared to Oat and Rice milk
Soy Milk: lower in carbohydrates, but often contains additives and can contribute to oestrogen dominance. Choose unsweetened for better glucose control.
Low Fat Cows Milk: high protein, but where the fat has been removed, there is an impact of the milk sugars on blood glucose levels.
Healthiest:
Unsweetened almond milk. Low in carbohydrates and free from sugar.
Coconut Milk: higher in fat, low in sugar, has a creamy texture. Look out for additives, gums, and added rice milk.
Full Fat Cows Milk: high in protein and fat. Will keep blood glucose steady. Go for organic, grass fed where possible. There is also Lactose free.
