Walk-in Cervical Screening Clinic at Heatherwood Hospital – Monday 23rd June

NHS Frimley Health and Care is encouraging women, and transgender or non-binary people with a cervix, aged 25 to 64 years to take up their screening invitation.

As part of Cervical Screening Awareness Week (19–24 June), Heatherwood Hospital, Ascot, are holding a walk-in cervical screening clinic on Monday, 23 June, between 9am-4pm run by specialist gynaecology nurses. The clinic offers a convenient and supportive option for those due or overdue for their cervical screening test.

The clinic will take place in the hospital’s gynaecology department, with no appointment needed. An information stand will be set up in the main reception, where clinicians will be available to answer any questions about the cervical screening process and provide reassurance to patients, staff, and visitors.
Cervical cancer is the most common cancer in women under 35, and tragically, two women die every day from the disease in the UK. However, 99.8% of cases are preventable (Cancer Research UK).
Cervical screening (formerly known as the smear test) is one of the most effective ways to prevent cervical cancer, yet around 1 in 4 people don’t attend their appointment, often due to fear, embarrassment, or uncertainty.

We understand that screening isn’t always easy. That’s why our expert nurses are trained to provide a supportive environment with adjustments available to make the test more comfortable. You may find it easier to take a friend or relative with you, ask for more time to talk through your concerns, or to listen to music or a podcast.
If you’ve received a screening invitation, or know you’re overdue, please don’t delay. The appointment lasts just a few minutes. Drop into the clinic at Heatherwood Hospital, Brook Ave, Ascot, SL5 7GB, on Monday, 23 June, or book with your GP. Attending your cervical screening could save your life.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women in England, the chance of getting breast cancer increases as you get older.
Regular breast screening is one of the best ways to spot a cancer that is too small to feel or see yourself – it saves around 1,300 lives each year in the UK.

Anyone registered with a GP as female aged from 50 up to their 71st birthday will be invited for NHS breast screening every 3 years.

You'll automatically get your first invite for breast screening between the ages of 50 and 53. You'll get a letter in the post inviting you.

Finding cancer early can make it more likely that treatment will be successful.

Breast screening can detect cancer long before you can even feel it. Or more likely, put your mind at rest.

So when you're invited, save the date, it could save your life.
