The menstrual cycle is often called the fifth vital sign—a powerful monthly report card that reflects hormonal balance, energy levels, emotional wellbeing, and overall vitality. When we learn to listen to it, the body becomes a guide rather than something to push against.

Humans are cyclical beings, and women in particular move through an ever-changing internal landscape. Biologically, the cycle is described as having two main phases—the follicular and luteal—yet energetically it is far richer. I like to explore the cycle through five phases, aligned with the Five Elements of Chinese Medicine, offering a more nuanced and intuitive way to live in harmony with your natural rhythms.

This cyclical pattern also mirrors the phases of the moon. If you no longer menstruate, or if your cycle is irregular, you can still tune into this wisdom by observing the moon and aligning with its energetic qualities. Cyclic living is less about bleeding and more about honoring the natural rise, peak, and fall of energy.

Would you like to know more about the phases of the cycle.

And it’s here.Hello there December ❄️

Can’t believe it’s the last month of the year. We are well and truly transitioning into most Yin time of the year.
So how we can align to nature with all that pre-Christmas rush?

For now just enjoy going to bed earlier. 🛌
Do a little bit of Qigong to calm your mind. 🧘🏻‍♂️
Go for a slow nurturing walk. 🚶
Try not to rush. 🐢
If you celebrate Christmas make it fun and enjoy Christmas 🎄 some wreath making of just cut few pieces of greenery from the garden to let it smell of Christmas.
Eat warming food. 🥘
Make a nice warming herbal tea 🍵

Enjoy December!
❤️

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the Water element is associated with the season of winter and represents the energy of storage, preservation, and quiet strength. It governs the deepest reserves of the body and is linked to stillness, reflection, and the ability to rest and restore. This time encourages slowing down, conserving energy, and turning inward, much like nature does in colder months.

The organs connected to the Water element are the Kidneys and the Bladder.

Kidneys are seen as the storehouse of Jing (essence), which influences growth, development, fertility, and longevity. When Water energy is balanced, a person feels grounded, resilient, and adaptable.
When out of balance, there may be feelings of fear, exhaustion, or lower back and urinary issues.

Emotionally and spiritually, the Water element is linked to willpower (Zhi) and the ability to move forward in life with quiet determination. It teaches the wisdom of patience, trust, and deep listening. During Water time, practices like gentle movement, warmth, meditation, and adequate sleep are especially supportive, helping to protect and nourish the body’s vital energy.
