💜 NHS Neonatal Survey 💜

The NHS wants to make sure parents have a good experience of care for their babies. Getting feedback from parents helps them improve and give parents and babies what they need.

🗓️ If your baby had neonatal care during June, July, August 2025, you may be invited to take part in the Neonatal Care Experience Survey. If you are invited, you will get a letter with more information.

Please have your say 💬 Your answers will help the NHS make neonatal care better.

For more information on the survey, please visit https://nhsneonatalsurvey.co.uk

Thank you 💜

- Jenny, Neonatal Lead

Neonatal care is care for babies who are born early or who are unwell. This survey aims to understand the experiences of neonatal care across England. Your views will help us understand what we’re doing well and how NHS neonatal services can be improved.

This year marks five years of Full Term Awareness Month, created by Bliss 💙

I had a baby born full term who needed neonatal care, and I know how hard that experience can be to navigate. Having a baby who needs neonatal care isn’t always something people expect, and it can be hard to share that journey with those who haven’t been through it.

There’s a common misconception that neonatal care is only for premature babies — but 60% of babies needing neonatal care are born full term and unwell.

This month is about raising awareness, building understanding, and reminding families they’re not alone 🤍
We’d also love to hear your stories of babies born full term who needed neonatal care - please reach out if you want a chat.

We’re kicking off 2026 with a big hello to our new Neonatal lead, Jenny! Jenny joins us to hear from and advocate for families and babies who have had a stay in the neonatal units at Pinderfields or Calderdale Hospitals.
Hello Jenny and welcome aboard!

She says:
“Hi, I’m Jenny Madley and I have recently started my role as the Neonatal engagement lead with the MNVP covering Wakefield, Kirklees and Calderdale. I’m a mum of nearly 2 year old Finn, who himself spent the first 9 days of his life at the neonatal unit at Pinderfields! 👶🏼 I am really passionate about neonatal care as I know firsthand how big an impact the little things can have in such a crucial time of our lives, and I want to make sure parents voices are heard so we can keep improving and making sure our communities feel seen and heard 💜 I would love to hear from you about your experiences with neonatal care and please feel free to reach out if you want to share your story or take part in this important work 🥰 “

Earlier this year, we visited the antenatal clinics at Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury hospitals to chat to you about your experiences of being pregnant with diabetes. Here's what you told us:

- Many told us it felt like choice was taken away because you are diabetic.
- Conflicting advice from clinicians made you feel worried.
- Appointments can feel rushed, which made it hard to talk about any worries or questions.
- The waiting room environment wasn't always comfortable, and travelling to hospital for frequent appointments was challenging.
- It made a difference when staff were kind and supportive.

Yesterday we met with staff to share this feedback and talk about these opportunities for improvement.

If you met Stacey and chatted to her while you were waiting for your appointment - thank you! Your voice will make a difference.

Get in touch if you'd like to know more about how you can contribute to future work.

Before sending, please make sure you agree to the following: "I give the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust my consent to use the photo(s) I provide of myself and my baby in the Trust's communication channels, including social media platforms, and in print."

We welcomed plenty more boys than girls across our Trust last month, looking at October's data! 👶

Let us know in the comments if your baby (or babies!) form a part of these stats 💙

If you’d like to share your birth experience with us, you can contact us via direct message or complete our feedback form at https://bit.ly/MYFFT ❤️
