The Calf Company has over 30 years’ experience of calf rearing and management at Pool Head Farm, from contract rearing 1000 calves a year. This has allowed us to understand the wants and needs customers have giving us a unique inside knowledge of calf health and management.

The Great British Calf Week will celebrate the launch of the GB Calf Strategy 2025-2030. This strategy is a cross-industry campaign spear-headed by AHDB, the NFU and Innovation for Agriculture, aiming to ensure that calves are reared with care and for a purpose – as part of either the dairy or beef supply chain🐮

Therefore, we will be posting everyday with best practice starting with the calf being born to the calf being weaned⭐

Our Optimum Calf Climate Barns (OCCBs) are a unique insulated housing system allowing calves to be reared in social groups of 7-10 up to 12 weeks of age in their own microenvironment. This promotes healthy calf growth due to non-sharing of airspace between next door groups. You can house a great number of calves by linking a number of housing bays together as you need 🐮 🏠

Yesterday, Alan & Josh attended the AHDB Dairy event “Futureproofing your business through expansion and natural assets” the Campbell Family Farm in Ayrshire, one of the Strategic Dairy Farms installed 6 Optimum Climate Calf Barns in the spring with the 3 focus’s of Calf Housing,
Soil Mapping & Infrastructure on farm.

David highlighted some key points:
⭐️50% less straw usage due to the 3% drainage fall
⭐️No antibiotic usage since installation in spring
⭐️How content the calves were looking out onto open space
⭐️Protecting the calves through the positioning of the units
