📢 Help Shape the Future of Adult Learning in Derbyshire 📚

Cabinet has agreed to consult the public on proposals for how adult education will be delivered in the future and they want to hear from you.

They are looking for a wide range of views on how to make adult learning:
✅ More flexible
✅ More sustainable
✅ More impactful

The goal is to ensure services meet the needs of Derbyshire communities, help people achieve their goals, and support progression.

Recent funding changes and evolving community needs gives the opportunity to review how to operate, increase learner numbers, and make sure those who need the most support can gain qualifications to move forward.

🗓 The public consultation launched on Monday 15 December and runs until Monday 22 February.
You can take part online: https://online1.snapsurveys.com/Interview/032882c8-4390-4478-81c3-5dad09339a43

No decisions will be made until all views have been considered.
Thank you for helping shape the future of adult education in Derbyshire. 🙏

Meet Dr Jonny Burton and come along to Hannage Brook’s Community Appointment Day on Wed 11th March!
(See the video clips in separate posts below👇🏼)

https://hannagebrook.co.uk/living-well-with-musculoskeletal-msk-conditions-together/

Jonny is a musculoskeletal (MSK) health lead in Derby and Derbyshire meaning he has a specialist interest in all things bone, muscles and joints.

Along with our management team, he has organised this day, working with the wider provider organisations in our neighbourhood, to support those of you on orthopaedic waiting lists to ‘wait well’. You can think of this as ‘pre-hab’ before surgery to optimise you to get through this time smoothly and safely. Thank you Jonny! Have a listen and do sign up!

💙 We are pleased to support the Last Days Matter sessions.

These sessions are aimed first and foremost at people caring for a relative, but they are also open to the general public.

🤝 Our South Dales Social Prescribing Team (Debbie, Zoe and Rachel) delivers the sessions in partnership with local hospices. Together, they explore the last few years of life and provide guidance on:

🧰 Offering practical help and 💬 emotional support

🗣️ Having important conversations before it is time to say goodbye

🕊️ Recognising the signs that someone may be nearing the end of their life

😔 Coping with grief and adjusting to life after loss

It’s that time of year…lots of coughs, sore throats and ear pain affecting you all, not least our babies and children. As most of these problems are caused by viruses, they don’t respond to antibiotics (which also have side-effects, so we want to use them wisely).

We hope that this advice is a good place to go for starters: https://www.nhs.uk/baby/health/colds-coughs-and-ear-infections-in-children/

Are you or someone you know experiencing hearing loss?
You can have a test at Hannage Brook (Tuesday or Wednesday with Scrivens)

We’re proud to share that staff at Hannage Brook Medical Centre are completing the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism.
This training was created in memory of Oliver McGowan, whose tragic death highlighted the importance of healthcare professionals listening to, understanding, and respecting the needs of people with learning disabilities and autistic people. Developed alongside Oliver’s family and people with lived experience, the training aims to reduce health inequalities and improve compassionate, safe care for all.
Completing this training reflects our commitment to being an inclusive, insightful, and patient-centred practice, where every individual is treated with dignity and understanding.
Thank you to our team for engaging so thoughtfully with this important training 💙

January can sometimes feel a bit much. It can feel dark, cold and difficult after Christmas and like there is nothing to look forward to. It can be a period of sad reflection for many and a time when people feel at their lowest. Certainly in the practice, our team see more people struggling with their mental health more at this time of year.
Why not come along to our men’s mental health session, every Tuesday evening at Hannage Brook 6.30 - 8pm. Or message Alex through texting ‘Tough’ to 85258

Don’t do this on your own!
