Did you know that as a professional acupuncturist, learning cupping therapy was part of my basic training before I was let loose with needles and I’ve been integrating it into my acupuncture practice for over 15 yrs? It can be a wonderful add on to an an acupuncture session. And as always, understanding the bigger picture of how it fits in with your Chinese medicine diagnosis is key to ensuring it is both safe and effective for the individual, it’s not enough to simply know how to apply the cups. My acupuncture patients can receive this as part of their treatment session at no extra cost. However those who want cupping as a stand alone treatment can also now book in at my Wisbech clinic via my website, link in the comments.

We know how to rock a bank holiday weekend here at the garden clinic! A small business like mine really is a family affair, and although he doesn’t stick the needles in (though he does keep offering!), my husband is a crucial part of keeping things running! Here he is on the roof doing some pre-change of season maintenance to ensure the clinic stays cosy and dry! He’ll be utterly thrilled by me sharing this photo 🤣! Meantime I’m making use of the weather by dragging everything out and doing a deep clean, all to keep the place lovely for you amazing lot. We may even get overly excited and get some new flowers for the pots outside the clinic!

Practicing what I preach in regards to prioritising my health… the cat still loves me even after a workout! We all go through periods of time where for whatever reason, our health slips down our priority list. That’s ok. As long as you don’t stay down at the bottom forever. My personal priority is to move more! I’m all about the learning and the deep dives into research around my patients’ health, so I can forget to move. You can start with small choices; drinking more water, adding more veg and so on. Or sorting out your pain issues that are holding you back from making other healthy choices. Let me know if I can help!

TEACHERS!! Or Tag A Teacher if you know one who needs to read this post!!
This week is the week to get booked in for your first acupuncture appointment here in Wisbech, before you’re caught up in the return to school and then struggle to find a free appointment slot after 4pm where I can see new patients! My evening slots are super popular so get your first appointment in now while you can easily do it during the daytime! Do not start the term with your aches and pains or unaddressed health needs!

Knees!!!! A lot of people come to me here in Wisbech for help managing osteo-arthritic knees, either to prolong the time until they need a knee replacement or to manage the pain whilst they wait for one. But did you know acupuncture after knee replacement surgery has been found to speed up recovery, increase range of motion, reduce mobility problems and reduce pain?

Photo: not my knees! Credit to Axel Scheffler and bonus points to anyone who recognises them! 🤔

PAIN. A four letter word that can mean so many different things to each of us. And something that can utterly ruin your quality of life. Many of the people who come for acupuncture here in Wisbech come with some sort of pain issue. There are so many reasons why someone might be in pain. And we know that relieving pain is one of acupuncture’s strengths. I was really excited to read the latest research confirming how acupuncture targets pain in three different ways; locally, via the spine and via the brain. This is crucial, especially for chronic pain as the research shows our brains can keep producing pain even when the original source of the pain is gone. We know that acupuncture works in a mind-body way but this research gives us more tangible explanations for what’s actually happening. I’ll put the link to it in the comments. If you’d like to find out more about how I can help you with your pain then do check out www.mariannekillick.co.uk where you can pop me an enquiry if you’d like to know more.

Photo: my wonderful sunflower has finally given up! So I thought it was a good representation of how pain can feel.

Look where I went last night! It was great enjoying good company, live music and singing my heart out to some PSB classics. It felt good to do something different and fun. It does everything good to do something just for fun; it lowers inflammation, it raises your mood and you just feel good! This is something I’ve been discussing a lot this week in my Wisbech clinic with patients: what do you do in your life, just for you, that brings you joy? It’s so easy to get stuck in doing everything for everyone else or because it’s something that needs to be done and to forget the fun. Having fun, laughter and joy is not selfish, it’s essential for good health! Let us know what you are doing this weekend for fun, doesn’t have to be a big trip out, the little things that bring us pleasure count too!

👶 Baby on board 👶 I’m so made up by this update sent to me by one of my IVF support patients. And of course a massive yes to the baby cuddles!! It’s this kind of thing that absolutely makes my day as an acupuncturist! Knowing a beautiful couple are now getting the chance they dreamed of to become a family. Priceless. ❤️

Given how hot it is I thought it a good time to do a blog post about hot flushes in perimenopause and menopause! Do check it out!

The transition through perimenopause and menopause can be intense and challenging, particularly for many women who struggle with hot flushes. These sudden waves of heat can be disruptive, affecting sleep, mood, and overall happiness. Fortunately, acupuncture has emerged as a valuable therapy for all...
