Massage for Migraine and Tension Relief
Migraine is a primary headache disorder characterized by recurrent headaches that are moderate to severe. Typically, the headaches affect one-half of the head. They can be pulsating and last from two to 72 hours. Associated symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light, sound, or smell. The pain is generally made worse by physical activity. Up to one-third of people will have a short period of visual disturbance which signals that a headache will soon occur.
Migraines can happen due to a mixture of environmental and genetic factors. About two-thirds of cases run in families. Changing hormone levels may also play a role, as migraines affect slightly more boys than girls before puberty and two to three times more adult women than men.
So what to do?
One of the solutions can be a preventive measure such as massage.
Don't wait for a migraine to start before you decide to book your massage session. Use it at regular intervals to prevent it. Massage doesn't just relax tight back muscles; it eases muscle tension in the neck, jaw, and shoulders, which usually cause headaches. Regular massage is a safe and effective treatment for migraines and headaches. It promotes deep relaxation and can help decrease stress and head pain.
