We were recently given some nice wood from a local company. Some of which is now this dedicated outside library to help school children exchange books and develop lifelong reading habits.

TRAVEL VACCINATIONS
COGGES SURGERY

As Summer holiday time is approaching and many people are still going on Winter sun holidays please can they remember to plan your holidays and think do I need travel vaccines too. They need to be given at least two weeks before they go so plan well ahead of time.

GP surgeries can only give NHS vaccines which are- Diptheria/Tetanus/ Polio, Hepatitis A and Typhoid and Cholera
Private vaccines are only given at travel health clinics: Hepatitis B, TB, Yellow Fever(Given at a Yellow Fever centre) Dengue Fever vaccine, Tick Bourne Encephalitis

If they are going backpacking or travelling to Multiple countries for more than 3-4 weeks- need to go to a travel clinic- Be aware there is a charge for this

Anti Malarials can be sourced via pharmacies/ online pharmacies.

Access country specific destinations for more information - Travel Health Pro and Fit for travel have a lot of information.
They have information on: Good bite prevention, Dengue Fever, Schistomiasis, Zika Virus, insect bites and ticks, sunscreen, etc

Patients should call the surgery and they will send a questionnaire via text so we can gain as much information about the trip as possible an appointment will then be made after the answers have been assessed, to have the vaccines.

Many thanks
Debbie

How is your blood pressure?

Did you know high blood pressure can damage blood vessels causing things like heart attacks, strokes, dementia and problems with erections?

High blood pressure usually has no symptoms so if you are over 40 please make sure you have it checked at least every 5 years or annually if you have other risk factors.

At Cogges Surgery we have a machine that you can use any time during opening hours. Please ask reception to show you where it is and simply hand in your readings.
