💩Let’s talk stool type in IBS 💩

🌟 Let's delve deeper into the diverse spectrum of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) this ! Did you know that IBS isn't a one-size-fits-all condition? It actually encompasses several subtypes, each with its own unique set of symptoms and challenges.

1️⃣ IBS-D (Diarrhoea-Predominant): Characterized by frequent bouts of diarrhea, individuals with IBS-D often experience urgency and discomfort, impacting their daily routines and quality of life.

2️⃣ IBS-C (Constipation-Predominant): On the flip side, IBS-C involves difficulty passing stools, leading to infrequent bowel movements, bloating, and abdominal discomfort. Managing this subtype often requires a delicate balance of dietary changes and medication.

3️⃣ IBS-M (Mixed): As the name suggests, IBS-M combines symptoms of both diarrhea and constipation. Flare-ups can alternate between loose stools and constipation, posing unique challenges for those affected.

4️⃣ IBS-U (Unsubtyped): Some individuals may not neatly fit into any of the above categories, falling under the umbrella of IBS-U. This subtype presents a mix of symptoms that don't align with a specific pattern, making diagnosis and management more complex.

Understanding these subtypes can help tailor treatment plans and allow for personalised care. Whether you're living with IBS or supporting a loved one, knowledge empowers us to navigate this journey more effectively.

If you think you may be experiencing symptoms of IBS, it's important to talk to your healthcare provider. They can help you determine whether you have IBS or another digestive disorder and work with you to develop a personalised treatment plan that addresses your individual needs and goals.

💛 March is Endometriosis Awareness Month 💛

Endometriosis (endo) is an inflammatory condition, where deposits of tissue that are similar to the lining of the uterus are found attached to other organs, such as on the bowel, bladder or ovaries.

Due to the adhesion of this tissue to the bowel, people with endo often experience symptoms like that in IBS, including diarrhoea, constipation and pain during bowel movements.

Symptom cross-overs, such as those seen between endo and IBS, can lead to a large delay in diagnosis, with many people waiting 6.5 years to be diagnosed.

It is important to get the right information about endo, so in conjunction with a trusted doctor or gynaecologist, learn more about endo at some of these resources:
https://www.endozone.com.au/
