Sophrology for Life

Sophrology for Life I help busy professionals to look after their wellbeing in a simple, effective and sustainable way.

I offer individual and group sessions, either online or in person. Sessions generally lasts up to an hour and usually follow the following format: initial check-in chat, demonstration of the sequence of exercises, the actual practice done together (either standing or sitting, usually with eyes closed), final pause and end of practice chat to share experience and reflections.

VALUES: What’s All the Fuss About?

Fair question! To be honest, I had a very abstract understanding of values myself until a real "aha" moment in a Sophrology session.

At the end of the session, I was asked if I’d experienced a particularly positive moment during the practice. After some thought, I realised how deeply it resonated when my Sophrologist invited to reinforce my capacity to support and be supported in life and work. That insight helped me to connect to one of my core values – reciprocity (which I shared in a previous article here). I started to join the dots and see how this had impacted my life and my decisions.

Reflecting on this, I saw one of the big reasons why I left my old job feeling totally burned out. That essential value was repeatedly overlooked. My colleagues and I kept working harder to make our modern language courses viable, create new initiatives, and "fix" the deficit we were blamed for, only to be told it wasn’t good enough!

Sophrology, as a holistic, mind-body practice, allows for a much deeper and more personal connection to our values, giving us the space and clarity to recognise what truly matters. When we tune into these insights through both our body sensations and mind, in a state of alert relaxation, we create a comprehensive connection to our core values – one that will support us in our choices, boundaries, and sense of purpose. And if you add to this the focused insight of coaching, the result is a blend that’s even more transformational and lasting.

Wonky growth! The hollyhock in our garden has a funny shape, mainly because of the large amount of rain and gusty winds it had to weather. A bit like our lives, which rarely follow a straight trajectory, right? And yet, we adapt and continue to grow despite the storms of our existence.

I know a lot of people around me are going through life-changing events, including some of my closest friends.
I just want to send them a message of hope and tell them how beautiful they are, however wonky and crushed they may feel, just like the gloriously wonky hollyhock in my garden. You are more resilient than you think.

What have you done to nurture your wellbeing today?

Your wellbeing checklist in a nutshell. Of course, it's not about being perfect and ticking all the boxes all of the time.

I do find it helpful though, when I feel out of sync or not happy inside, to notice what aspect(s) of my wellbeing I may have neglected or just got lost amidst the busyness of life.

For me, the two things that often don't get ticked off and really affect how I feel are:

* Interacting with people face-to-face
* Being outdoors.

Today has been good. I slept well, I went swimming early this morning, I met a friend and we had a great chat. I've done a bit of work! After this, I'm going to take myself for a short walk!

Anyway, what can you tick off today?

We often forget that our breath is our most powerful ally. Although we don't usually give our breathing much thought as it happens automatically, we can use it with a little intention to help us change our emotional state.

If you're feeling a bit frazzled today, try this simple breathing exercise:

🌞 Closing your eyes, focus on a positive quality or feeling you would like more of. Maybe a word, an image, or a pleasant memory.

🌞 As you breathe in, invite and fill yourself with this positive quality or feeling.

🌞 As you breathe out, spread the positive word/image/feeling throughout your whole body. Using each breath to increase it in yourself a little more.

🌞 Do this for a few cycles of your natural breath, and take a moment to notice how you are feeling.
