๐Ÿคง๐Ÿฆ  Cold or flu - knowing the difference might not seem urgent, but it can help you act right. A cold often develops slowly and stays mostly around your nose and throat, while the flu tends to hit fast, affects your whole body and leaves you feeling really unwell.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Check what to expect and when to seek help:

Rest well, keep hydrated and if things feel worse than โ€œjust a coldโ€, donโ€™t hesitate to seek advice.

๐Ÿ’Šโœจ Did you know your local pharmacy can do far more than just hand out prescriptions? Under the Pharmacy First scheme, pharmacists can now help with a range of common conditions โ€” often without needing a GP appointment! ๐Ÿ™Œ

๐Ÿ’ฌ They can offer advice, treatments and even prescribe for minor illnesses. So next time youโ€™re under the weather, head to your local pharmacy first.

Industrial action is taking place this week, and NHS services across Surrey are already extremely busy.

Surreyโ€™s Joint Chief Medical Officer is asking residents to use NHS services responsibly, choose the right service for their needs, and help protect care for those who need it most.

๐Ÿ”น Consider Pharmacy First for minor illnesses
๐Ÿ”น Use NHS 111 for advice and guidance
๐Ÿ”น Only use A&E for emergencies

This time the impact of industrial action is expected to be exacerbated by the high demand for services already being experienced, with cases of flu peaking earlier and predicted to grow, amid mounting concerns over what is expected to be one of the worst flu seasons the NHS has seen.

A Clinical Pharmacist is another qualified member of a GP surgery team.

Youโ€™ll be referred to a Clinical Pharmacist so they can decide which medicines will work best for you โ€“ or check the ones you already take โ€“ especially if you have a long-term condition or several conditions.

Here at our practice, we have a Clinical Pharmacist plus other healthcare professionals with expert skills and knowledge who work alongside your GP. Being referred to one of our healthcare professionals means youโ€™ll still be treated by someone with the right skills and knowledge for your problem or condition. It will always be your choice but means you may not need to wait to see your GP and may be seen sooner!

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ What is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)?

An Advanced Nurse Practitioner is a highly skilled nurse with advanced training (often Masterโ€™s level) who can assess, diagnose, treat and manage a wide range of health conditions โ€” much like a GP.

What can an ANP do?
๐Ÿฉบ Assess & diagnose โ€“ take medical histories, examine patients, request and interpret tests.
๐Ÿ’Š Prescribe medication โ€“ most ANPs are independent prescribers.
๐Ÿ“ Create treatment plans โ€“ manage long-term conditions like asthma, diabetes or COPD.
โšก Provide urgent care โ€“ minor illnesses, infections, injuries and same-day problems.
๐Ÿฅ Carry out procedures โ€“ e.g., wound care, cervical screening, joint injections (depending on training).

๐Ÿค Offer holistic, patient-centred support โ€“ time to explain, advise and guide your care.
ANPs are a vital part of our clinical team, helping you access expert care quickly and safely.
