Important Notice: Meningitis B – National Incident Declaration
As many of you will have seen in the news, the Meningitis B (MenB) outbreak that originated in Kent has today been declared a national incident by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and NHS England.
There have been 15 confirmed cases so far, two of which have sadly been fatal, with a further case now confirmed in London — the first outside of Kent. Our thoughts are with all those affected and their families at this deeply difficult time.
We want to be transparent with our customers: all MenB vaccine stock has been requisitioned by the government as part of the national emergency response. This means we do not currently have any supply available. We are not in a position to offer private MenB vaccinations at this time.
Should this situation change, we will update you as soon as possible.
Know the symptoms. Signs and symptoms of meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia can include fever, headache, rapid breathing, drowsiness, shivering, vomiting, and cold hands and feet. Septicaemia can also cause a characteristic rash that does not fade when pressed with a glass.
Early symptoms can easily be mistaken for a cold, flu, or hangover — so please don't hesitate to act.
If you or someone you know develops these symptoms, seek medical help immediately — contact your GP, call NHS 111, or dial 999 in an emergency.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep you informed.
