Treatment for professional dancers

Rick Williams is our experienced osteopath specialising in dance at the Woking Clinic. With a long history of treating both professional dancers and vocational dance students. His primary interests include managing hypermobility and mitigating injury risks. Rick's approach involves understanding each dancer's unique physique and the specific techniques they require, enabling him to coach them effectively from injury recovery to performance readiness through targeted strength and control exercises.

Rick's practice involves regular collaboration with orthopaedic surgeons, sports physicians, and his own multidisciplinary network. He thrives on the challenge of extending healthcare services to young dancers at all levels. In addition to treating injuries, identifying and addressing issues that may be limiting a dancer's potential are also part of his scope of practice. His wife was a professional dancer and is now a teacher; his eldest son works professionally, and his youngest is in full-time training.

Headaches caused by neck issues:

According to the NHS, 90% of the population have or will experience headaches, with 15-20% of these headaches caused by pain from the joints and muscles in your neck.

Chiropractors are experts in dealing with these cervicogenic headaches. We work on the muscles and the joints of the neck in a variety of safe ways, depending on the needs and preferences of our patients. Our primary goal to a pain-free life is ensuring that your neck can move fully and freely. Our secondary goal, once the headaches have gone, is ensuring that you know how to prevent the return of the headaches. Chiropractors are educators as well as therapists. We offer our patients with home advice and exercises, which we demonstrate to our patients, in order to set them on the right path of satisfied pain-free living.

Victoria Chiropractic Centre is a hub for healing. The Chiropractors collaborate with the massage therapists at the clinic to co-manage the patient from symptoms to wellness. We also have an acupuncturist and a reflexologist.

If you have neck pain and/or headaches, pick up the phone and make the call: 01483 723 688. We can help.

Bank holidays are often a time to kick off some gardening projects. But if you are not careful, you can injure your back.

Here are some practical tips to avoid any aches and strains 😀.

Gardening is like any other exercise—you need to warm up first. Start with the lighter jobs before you jump into heavy garden work. This will lessen the chance of muscle strain.

Avoid overstretching. Invest in some long-handled secateurs, for example.

Take regular breaks every 20-30 minutes, and vary your activities.

When lifting, keep items close to your body and bend your knees. It is sometimes better to bend one knee rather than two, as your supporting leg gives you a position of strength.

Enjoy your time in the garden, and avoid those aches and strains 😀🪴

Most of us are in the same boat if working from home, spending large parts of our day using a computer. But this common habit can lead to back and neck pain if we're not careful.

Try the following to avoid back and neck problems.

If you use a laptop, invest in a stand and put it on some books to ensure the screen is at eye level.

Buying a normal keyboard, mouse and screen to plug into laptops is a good idea. This will make it much easier to use the computer in a more ‘back-friendly manner.’

Your seat should be adjusted so that your feet are flat on the ground and your knees bent but with a slope from your hips to your knees. It would help if you ended up with your hips higher than your knees and your eyes level with the top of the computer screen.
