World Health Day 2025.

The theme for this year by the World Health Organisation is Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures.

The health of mothers and babies is the foundation of healthy families and communities.

The year long campaign will urge governments and the health community to ramp up efforts to end preventable maternal and new-born deaths, and to prioritise women's longer term health and well-being.

As Diwali is round the corner, one of the main festivals celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, our third Food and Health event focussed on Diwali cooking. Funded by Public Health Surrey, the menu included traditional food items from Bombay and Punjab, often part of Diwali celebration.

We were delighted to welcome Radio Woking who covered the event.

Back to Back two free cooking events hosted by Maybury and Sheerwater Community Trust and funded by Public Health Surrey as part of their Food and Health Project. Cooking with children was in collaboration with Foodwise at a venue in Sheerwater. We were delighted to welcome 71 guests making it one of our most successful events to date - the other was liver screening.

We at Mascot Woking thank everyone who supported us at the event, silently working behind the scenes from start to finish. Surrey County Council Link Officer cleared all of the 80 chairs at the end of the event despite being an invited guest.

The menu for the event was Naan Bread Pizzas and Fruit Kebabs which the children enjoyed making. We were taught the right way to chop onions and the grapes which is definitely a valuable lesson for parents and grandparents of very young children.

Some pictures from the event.
