What is matwork Pilates? What will you need?

Pilates is a form of exercise, developed by Joseph Pilates, which emphasizes the balanced development of the body. Instead of focusing on the superficial muscles, Pilates targets the deep stabilising muscles within the body and practice will improve posture, strength, function and movement of the joints, core strength and flexibility. I am passionate about the benefits of Pilates on your body, mind and overall wellbeing, and would like to share this passion with you! I have scoliosis and started my journey into Pilates following a recommendation to practice it by my Back Consultant in 2008. I started attending one class a week and soon progressed to two classes a week and not only noticed a vast improvement in my day to day pain reduction, but also a big change in my posture and body shape.

'With Pilates you will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 and have a new body in 30'. With the focus on core stability, benefits of matwork Pilates include longer, leaner muscles, improved posture, reduced risk of injury and enhanced performance of your body. The Pilates exercises are a form of dynamic stabilisation retraining that reconditions the body from the central core. All equipment, including mats, will be provided for you. In some of my session I will use small Pilates equipment such as bands, balls, rollers, toning circles and weights to ensure a challenging and varied class each week. What to wear? Non-restrictive comfortable clothing (t-shirt, leggings, tracksuit) and socks. Trainers are not required

Sunday reset = climbing wall adventure with friends 🧗‍♀️💪

I tried climbing in my teens/20s but never had the strength (or the stomach for heights 😅).

Fast forward 30+ years and thanks to Pilates, I’ve built the strength, stability, and mobility I need to give climbing another go.

What I love is how the two complement each other:

✨ Pilates mobility → helps me move better through complex climbing routes.

✨ Climbing strength → carries back into my Pilates practice (and even makes desk time more comfortable!).

🌿 Self-Care Reminder 🌿

How has your weekend been?

Have you managed to carve out a little time just for you, as well as for everyone else in your life?

Mine has been a full one — catching up with relatives visiting from Wales, helping prepare my childhood home to sell, and of course, the usual weekend chores. Today also holds extra meaning as it marks 12 years since my Dad passed away, so finding a moment for myself felt especially important.

For me, that precious time came in the form of an early morning 1km swim at the local lido — 30 minutes to breathe, reflect, and remember. 💙

Self-care doesn’t always need to be big or elaborate. It could just as easily be 30 minutes with a book, or a gentle pilates session. The important thing is making space for you.

✨ How have you taken care of yourself this weekend? ✨
