I’ve been a little quiet on here lately—life has been a bit of a juggling act trying to balance work, studying, and family! 🤹‍♀️ But it’s days like today that remind me exactly why I do what I do and how lucky I am to be a Music Therapist 🎶

Where else could my “office hours” involve helping a tween with ASD and ADHD improvise a rap about the Bristol Stool Scale 🎤💩 or putting on a puppet show with a 10-year-old to a very eclectic soundtrack? 🎭🎶

While it looks like pure chaos and fun from the outside, there is so much hard work happening behind the scenes. Each session was intentionally designed to work on:

Executive Functioning: Planning out the “setlist” and performance.

Emotional Expression: Using characters to say what’s hard to put into words.

Sensory Regulation: Managing energy levels through rhythm and movement.

Sustained Attention: Staying engaged in a complex, multi-step task.

Big thank you to for the photos

For new mothers, the journey can sometimes be isolating, and Postnatal Depression (PND) is a real struggle. Did you know that singing—whether in a group or just to your baby—can be a surprisingly powerful tool for recovery?

The rhythmic breathing, creative expression, and social connection found in singing stimulate feel-good hormones, reduce stress, and are core components of music therapy. It’s an accessible way to heal emotional wounds and regain control.

This BBC article highlights how a ‘three year study has found that specially designed singing classes are clinically effective at treating mums with postnatal depression. The authors say they could also be cost effective for the NHS at a time when mental health services are under pressure.

After my premature baby arrived, I dealt with intense postnatal anxiety. Singing to her while she was in the NICU became my way to cope and connect. This photo was taken when she was a few months old after introducing her to the guitar for the first time 🎸

This weekend I officially started my Solution Focused Hypnotherapy training with

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a modern, evidence-based approach that helps people make positive changes by focusing on solutions rather than problems. It works with the brain’s natural ability to rewire itself, encouraging new, healthier thought patterns and reducing the dominance of the stress response. 🧠✨

Did you know it can be highly effective for a wide range of conditions, including:
🌿 Anxiety & stress
🌙 Sleep difficulties
💪 Confidence issues
🚭 Phobias & habits
🌈 Low mood

I’m so excited to be on this journey and can’t wait to share more as my training progresses 🧡

🌟 Hi everyone, I’m Holly 👋
Most of you know me from Little Bear’s Music, and after 6 incredible years, I recently made the big decision to pass on the baton of Little Bears so I can focus fully on my work in music therapy 🎶💛

Here’s a little bit about my background 😊

As a Music Therapist and Neurologic Music Therapist, I’ve worked for 23 yrs with children and adults with acquired brain injury, children with additional needs, children who are neurodivergent and children within adoption—and it’s been the most rewarding journey.

Now, I’m excited to be expanding my skills even further as I begin training in Solution Focused Therapy and Hypnotherapy next month at Surrey University 🎓✨

With this new chapter, I’m also enjoying a bit more time to get outside, move my body, and reconnect with nature 🌿☀️ I’m also enjoying feeling less stressed and being able to spend more time with my family 😊

I’m still working while studying so if you’re interested in finding out more about Music Therapy do get in touch at hollyhitchenmt@gmail.com
