I have written an article on Deep Brain Reorienting on counselling directory. I’m finding it to be a very useful and effective therapy of itself and also integrate with my EMDR work.

Deep Brain Reorienting is focused on clearing trauma stored deep in the brain and experienced through body sensations and core emotions.

In DBR, we are staying with the body and not going into upper level thinking and analysis, in order to processes the core shock and affects from trauma and attachment wounding. These are stored in the brainstem but felt in the body. The shock in the body is often missed due to being drowned out by emotions. However, it is often the cause of many issues such as addiction, sleep disturbance, PTSD, dissociation, self-worth/esteem difficulties, OCD, panic and other anxieties and more.

Really looking forward to adding Deep Brain Reorienting to my practice and looking forward to level 2 training in April.

Deep Brain Reorienting is a relatively new therapy approach aimed at clearing trauma shock and attachment pain through tracking somatics, affects and trauma defences felt in the body which were set in place during trauma and attachment wounding. The brainstem sequence (orientation, shock, affect and trauma defences) from earlier trauma gets set and can be accessed through current triggers. Although understanding and exploring history is important, this means we don’t always need to work out which memories relate to which trigger or process the origins. We can access them through current day triggers, through processing the deep brain sequences in the present.

🎬 A Resource We’re Grateful to Share 🌹

We’re always looking to share resources that feel thoughtful, respectful, and grounded—and Petals of a Rose is one we highly recommend.

This short film offers an accurate, compassionate portrayal of Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), created with care and intention. Rather than sensationalizing trauma, it centers lived experience, nuance, and humanity—something that’s still far too rare in media.

For individuals with DID, loved ones, and professionals seeking better understanding, Petals of a Rose can be a meaningful starting point for reflection and conversation.

We’re grateful to creators who prioritize authenticity and who contribute to greater awareness and respect for the DID community.

A good piece on integration with DID, and essentially why it isn’t a treatment goal!

I have been asked repeatedly about my views on integration as a treatment goal for Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID / MPD). I’ve written posts and comments about this topic, but unfortunately, I didn’t create a “category” for these posts. So now, with the 170+ articles on this blog, these...
