“Hands on Help”

This powerful testimonial comes from a real ARC client. Brought to life by a local youth theatre group (Reading REP)

Their voices reflect real experiences, reminding us how much it means to be heard and supported.

Cleaning doesn’t have to be a never ending battle. With a few clever hacks you can get your space sparkling faster ✨, and actually enjoy the process (a little).

1. Work smarter not harder: set 10 minute timers and tackle one area at a time, short bursts increase rewards and keep energy high!
2. Cleaning products: cut down on clutter under the sink and keep one to go cleaner that works everywhere. Especially for those days you’re not so motivated.
3. Declutter first: There is a difference between tidying and cleaning. Clear the surfaces, then wipe.
4. Go top to bottom: start high, shelves, mirrors, counters, then move down, that way you only hoover once.
5. Create a routine: tiny daily habits beat one big clean, keeps it manageable, meaning if you forget one day, it doesn’t matter!

A tidy home = a calm mind

Alcohol is everywhere, parties, celebrations, social events. It’s legal and widely accepted, but that does not make it harmless.

While many see it as a way to relax or socialise, alcohol is linked to serious short-term and long-term health risks. These are often overlooked.

It does not only impact physical health, it also affects mental wellbeing, relationships, finance and safety. If you choose to drink, know the risks, set boundaries and protect yourself.

Let us share awareness and choose health over harm. Share this post to keep others informed. Knowledge saves lives.

Black history month is an annual celebration in the month of October that honours the achievements, history and milestones that black people have achieved worldwide.

This is a time to educate non-black people into why we should recognise the struggle and racism that black people faced in order to be recognised for their impact in history.

This month is important because by showcasing the resilience of black leaders, idols and communities, it inspires future generations and promotes inclusivity in society.

In the rush of work, deadlines, news and the endless to do lists, it can be easy to forget about ourselves and what we need. You deserve to sit back and pour a little into yourself, whether that be a relaxing bath, or just sitting and watching the telly. Let your mind rest for a few minutes.

Growth does not happen only in the loud big moments, but the small, steady acts of tending to your own roots.

In the midst of all the noise, remember to water yourself too. You are allowed to be nourished, to take up space, and bloom.

🌟 Do you know someone who deserves to be celebrated? 🌟

The Mayor’s Honour Awards 2026 are now open for nominations in Wokingham Borough - this is your chance to recognise someone special who’s gone above and beyond for our community.
Wokingham

We at ARC Youth Access are looking to honour people who:

- Have made an exceptional contribution to the borough (young people, adults, volunteers, carers, groups… everyone is welcome!)

- May seem to be doing “ordinary” things, but in doing so are truly selfless, kind, committed

- Inspire others by their actions, whether quietly or publicly

If someone in your life fits this description - a teacher, a volunteer, a youth group, a neighbour, a friend - please nominate them! ✨

How to nominate: Send an email to mayoralsupport@wokingham.gov.uk with the name of the person/group, why you’re nominating them (up to 100 words), and contact details.

🗓️ Nominations close 1 January 2026.

Let's work together to shine a light on people doing incredible things in our community. Tag someone below or share this - let’s spread the word!

Do you ever wonder why crying can feel like a full body reset?

Crying is not a weakness, it's biology. Emotional tears carry stress hormones out of the body, releasing endorphins and can switch your nervous system from flight or fight, into rest and digest. That's why many people feel calmer, lighter and even sleepy after.

Want to support someone (or yourself) through a cry?
• Create a quiet, comfortable space with no rush or judgment
• Offer steady presence, listen more than you speak
• Ask before giving a hug. Caring touch boosts oxytocin if it’s welcome
• After the tears ease, try slow breathing or a sip of water to deepen relaxation

Crying is one of the body’s natural stress-release tools. Letting those tears flow, and holding space for others to do the same can be powerful self-care.
