It doesn’t have to be the result of blunt trauma like stubbing your toe or hitting your hand with a hammer. It can be an emotional response - heartache, or feeling sick to your stomach.

Pain can present itself in different ways, but ultimately, it’s our body saying:

Medication and surgery have become the go to, easy ‘fix’ for all our health problems, including pain. Medication is wonderful - it has a place in our healing journey. But it is not THE healing journey. To understand that in the context of pain is to understand what pain is, and is not. There are different types of pain, and we do not feel pain in the same linear way. If that were the case, medicating would be the simple solution.

Suppressed emotion is probably at the root of the vast majority of chronic health issues.

How we process experiences in life and the associated emotions, and understand what the nervous system is doing with that emotion, will have an impact on our brain and on our physiology. Anxiety and turbulence in the stomach can present as butterflies. We can feel shock as a tightening in our heart. We can be moved by many things in life: watching a bird in a tree, children playing or a distressing shock event.

If we are unable to process and to really experience those emotions – problems may occur.
