Roots Discovered I aim to create a family tree and family history report, discovering ancestors' names, their occupat Ever wondered who your ancestors are? Report as project one.
(2)

Uncover the story of your family and have a family history report and family tree to share with your family and future generations. It can also be a great present, for example at the time of a family member's birthday or retirement. I have been undertaking family history research since 2001 for family and friends making some fabulous discoveries, and now that I have retired from full time employment I am looking to expand the research I undertake. My research will normally all be carried out online with the addition of any necessary birth, death or marriage certificates being obtained from the General Register Office. I would aim to trace your ancestors back to c1800. There is the option to have one or all of your grandparents' ancestors researched with all the findings attractively presented in a family history report and a family tree of your direct ancestors. Prices start from £75, as detailed below. Family trees can be provided in different formats and can also be produced based on existing family members where no research is needed. Where no research is necessary prices for a family tree start from £25. The first meeting is free of charge where all details can be covered and for us to establish the most suitable research to be undertaken for you. I can also show you examples of my work. Project One - Price £75, timescale 4 weeks

My research aims to trace your direct ancestors back to the early 1800s from one of your grandparents. The aim is to include two great grandparents and four great great grandparents on your family tree, which, including yourself, is likely to amount to five generations and nine people. As well as the family tree, the report, where possible, will give –
• Dates and places of birth (or baptism) and marriage, as well as occupations and where ancestors lived.
• A summary of the family included on the census return, which would include, for example, your great aunts, great great uncles etc.
• Any other facts identified during the reach as well as landmarks local to your ancestors e,g.churches where they were married. Project Two - Price £140, timescale 5 weeks

As project one but aims to trace your direct ancestors back to the early 1800s from two of your grandparents. The aim is to include four great grandparents and eight great great grandparents on your family tree, which, including yourself, is likely to amount to five generations and sixteen people. Project Three - Price £240 timescale 6 weeks

As project one but aims to trace your direct ancestors back to the early 1800s from all four of your grandparents. The aim is to include eight great grandparents and sixteen great great grandparents on your family tree, which, including yourself, is likely to amount to five generations and thirty one people. For project one the cost includes obtaining two birth or marriage certificates from the GRO, three for project two, and five for project three. Should any additional certificates be needed the cost of these, at £9.25 each, will be added to the project costs. The timescales shown take into account the ordering and receipt of such certificates. If any great great great grandparents are clearly shown on census records found then these too can be included on the family tree for each project. I will provide you with a family tree and a written family history report which will detail all that has been discovered about your direct ancestors from my research and GRO certificates, plus any other details found online, for example other family members shown on the census returns, military service and church names where married or baptised. The report would include any GRO certificates obtained and copies of any other documentation, e.g. census returns. Family Tree sizes are either A4 or double A4, normally in black and white, with the option, at extra cost, for the Family Tree to be framed. The family tree framed with old family pictures can be attractive. If you would like further work to be undertaken once the initial project is complete then this can be discussed and costs and timescales agreed. For example –
• You may wish to receive a family tree which sets out your existing family as a gift for Christmas or a birthday or just to celebrate your descendants, or
• A family tree that features the generations of just one surname, or
• A family tree covering both your ancestors and your descendants, or
• An extended family tree to include your ancestors’ children

Looking forward to going to Ardara, Co Donegal, on the west coast of Ireland again in August with my sisters Rita and June. This is the location of the earliest Hamilton ancestors traced so far from 1800, so hope to meet up with distant cousins and see the amazing views again.

If you have ever wanted to see your ancestors' handwriting, then the 1911 census return was completed and signed by the Head of the Household.
Copies of the census returns are available to view on a number of genealogy websites. Alternatively I can undertake some research on your behalf and compile a family tree and family history report, which would include the 1911 census - more details on my "About" page.

The recent release for viewing online of a population survey taken in 1939, known as the "1939 register", has been a great boost for those looking to discover details about their family history. The register was designed to enable the government to distribute identity cards and ration books and to facilitate conscription at the start of World War Two.

The data consists of names, date of birth, address, gender, employment status, job and marital status, although the information is only shown for individuals who were born more than 100 years ago or have died since 1939.

The details are available on the genealogy website www.findmypast.co.uk, charges apply but it can be viewed for free at most libraries and local record offices. The register is particularly helpful as, although a census was normally taken every ten years, the 1931 census records were destroyed by fire and no census was taken in 1941.

Just received my copy of a new book which has numerous references to my great grandmother F***y Hamilton who was a key witness to a murder in 1871.

The book is entitled "Pretty Jane and the Viper of Kidbrooke Lane" and is a true story about the much publicised murder of a Jane Coulsen who was lodging with the Hamilton family at the time, should be an interesting read.

With the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme in World War One approaching the Commonwealth War Grave website is a way to discover for free if any family members died during WW1 as well as being able to discover the location of their grave and view a certificate of commemoration.

The website is www.cwgc.org and covers both World Wars and has helped me to locate my great uncle William's Commonwealth War Grave in Portsmouth as well as for others where graves in France have been discovered for the first time by their families.
