A funeral reading can be a wonderful way of saying your final goodbyes to a loved one. It’s often considered an important part of any funeral service, religious or not, and can bring comfort at this difficult time.

Music truly is such a powerful thing to many of us, which is why choosing the perfect music for a funeral service is deemed so special and important. It is a chance for you to pay tribute to their personality, their hobbies, or simply say farewell with one of their favourite songs. There are no set rules when it comes to choosing funeral music. The main point is remembering your loved ones with the most appropriate tribute. There is no rush when making these decisions so take your time and think about your loved one, think about what music they enjoyed listening to and what music you think expresses who they are in the best way possible.

Donna Ashworth.. thank you 🙏

Today, August 30th, is National Grief Awareness Day…

Why do I write so much about grief?
Because, like love, grief is the one thing we will all know in this life.
We will all grieve, we probably are all grieving in some way, right now. We all know grief, we will all cause grief.
To love is to grieve. To live is to lose.
And yet there is still stigma and silence around those ‘stuck’ in their new world of grief.
We usher and rush them along to join back in with the rat-race of life.

But they do not need reminders of their struggling, they already know.

They need to hear others talking about grief, see others sharing their stories and feel safe to grieve wherever they are.

They need more light on the darkest areas of this life, we all do.

To love is to grieve, to live is to lose, so let’s stop whispering and shunning those in pain and start asking the questions and mentioning lost loved ones names without ‘fear’ of the reaction.

They can’t hurt more. That is already happening.

But they can hurt less, and time is not the sole healer we think it to be.

Time creates a capacity to process and accept yes… but it’s the talking that heals, the sharing that strengthens and the ‘using love as the lead’, that lets joy come back on in…

No one has the answers but acceptance helps. Love and understanding helps even more.

Each grief is as unique as the fingerprint of the person. And that’s really truly beautiful, if you stop to think.

Out Tuesday and your pre-orders have given me such peace of mind and lightness of heart. So thank you 💛

Visiting your loved one.

The decision of whether to visit your loved one is your choice and yours alone. This is one aspect of the funeral where we can’t really advise you but we have found that many people take a lot of comfort from seeing their loved one at rest and having some final time together in our chapel. Seeing your loved one may also help provide some closure. There will be no pressure from us to visit. This is your decision.

We have a private Chapel of Rest available in our funeral home, but if you prefer, you may wish to have your loved one at home. We are always here to help with your arrangements.

If you choose to use our Chapel of Rest, there is no rush - please spend as much time as you need with your loved one. Our Chapel of Rest allows privacy and gives you an opportunity to spend as much time as you need with your loved one. Our chapel is open during normal office hours and other times by prior appointment.

If there are any photos, letters, or maybe something personal that you would like placing with your loved one, please feel free to do so. This is another way that you can help personalise your loved ones' funeral.

Our team will discuss all of your requirements to ensure we can accommodate your personal requests.

As an independent family-run funeral directors we arrange and conduct a wide range of funerals, burials, and cremations. We have experience when it comes to tailoring all aspects of a funeral to the families wishes.
We understand how important a loved one's funeral is, and we are here to help you create the send-off your loved one deserves.
You may require a bespoke coffin that reflects your loved one and their personality. That's not a problem. You may require an alternative hearse or a horse and carriage. We have a wide choice for you to choose from. We can advise on floral arrangements for your loved ones' funeral.
We also look at the smaller but just as important details. You may wish to have a family photo or personal item to go in your loved one’s hands. Memorial Jewellery or other keepsakes, we can help you with this. We add a personal touch to all areas of the service to ensure the funeral is personalised to your loved one.
Nothing is too much, we are here for you from the first phone call, and we will be here for you after your loved one’s funeral.

Please feel free to give us a call for more information.
