🚭 Stop Smoking Day 🚭

If you are pregnant and thinking about stopping smoking, today is a great day to start.

Stopping smoking at any point in pregnancy can make a real difference to your baby’s health. It helps your baby get more oxygen, supports healthy growth and reduces the risk of complications during pregnancy and birth.

We understand that quitting can feel difficult, but you are not on your own.

The NHS Healthy Pregnancy team can offer:
• Free, friendly support
• Access to stop smoking advisors
• Ni****ne replacement therapy
• Ongoing encouragement throughout your pregnancy

Every cigarette not smoked is a positive step for you and your baby.

Please message the page or speak to your midwife to find out what support is available to you.

💙 Safer Sleep Week (9–15 March) 💙

This week we’re supporting Safer Sleep Week, led by The Lullaby Trust, to help raise awareness of how to keep babies safe while they sleep.

Following safer sleep guidance for every sleep, day and night, can help reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Simple steps include:
• Always place your baby on their back to sleep
• Keep the cot clear (no toys, pillows or loose bedding)
• Use a firm, flat mattress
• Keep baby smoke-free
• Avoid baby overheating
• Sleep baby in the same room as you for the first 6 months.

Find out more about safer sleep advice from The Lullaby Trust:

If you’d like to learn more about caring for your baby and safe sleep, book onto one of our antenatal classes by sending us a message. We’d love to support you on your journey into parenthood. 💬

It’s a bit 🔥 ☀️

Top tips for babywearing safely in this kind of weather (cos babies often still want to be held or you need to go somewhere)…

💦keep well hydrated
🕶find or make shade (brollies are good portable shades!)⛱
🧴protect exposed areas with sun block (zinc based) if over 6m
☀️use single layer breathable carriers (like the MiniSling, cotton ring sling, mesh carriers eg Izmi Breeze or the ultra light solar Integra or Tula Lite)
👍hip or back carries are cooler
🌞go out early or late, avoid the middle of the day
😎use a buggy for transport, (but don’t put cloths over for shade, it just raises the temp, use things like the UV snooze shade)
