By the time you are 6 months pregnant, your baby is already the size of a head of lettuce!🥗

It is important to continue to do your pelvic floor exercises during pregnancy to aid with your postnatal recovery as well as preparing your body for birth!

From 28 weeks pregnant you will be offered the RSV vaccination to protect baby when they arrive. 💉
For more information on vaccinations in pregnancy, have look on the badger app, or speak to your midwife or the healthy pregnancy team!

It’s a bit 🔥 ☀️

Top tips for babywearing safely in this kind of weather (cos babies often still want to be held or you need to go somewhere)…

💦keep well hydrated
🕶find or make shade (brollies are good portable shades!)⛱
🧴protect exposed areas with sun block (zinc based) if over 6m
☀️use single layer breathable carriers (like the MiniSling, cotton ring sling, mesh carriers eg Izmi Breeze or the ultra light solar Integra or Tula Lite)
👍hip or back carries are cooler
🌞go out early or late, avoid the middle of the day
😎use a buggy for transport, (but don’t put cloths over for shade, it just raises the temp, use things like the UV snooze shade)

At 5 months pregnant your baby is the size of an Aubergine and you are already past the halfway mark! You may have found out the gender of your little one. 🩷🩵

This month you may have started feeling babies movements, these will continue to become more frequent as baby gets bigger. If you have any concerns about fetal movements don't hesitate to call maternity triage.

At this stage in pregnancy you may be interested in doing some antenatal classes. We have lots of support available in Wolverhampton for expecting families. Message the healthy pregnancy team to find out more about our parental education classes and groups!🤰

4 Months Pregnant - Baby is about the size of a sweet potato!🍠
You should now have had your dating scan and have seen baby (or babies!)

You may also be experiencing some food cravings - it's fine to give in from time to time, as long as your overall diet is still balanced. (If you are experiencing non-food cravings speak to your midwife as this can be a sign of a deficiency!)

Your teeth and gums may become more sensitive at this time, due to hormonal changes. Make use of your maternity exemption and visit the dentist regularly during your pregnancy. 🦷

Your Midwife will have stressed the importance of pelvic floor exercises during your pregnancy, but these exercises are important throughout life, not just in pregnancy and after delivery. When done properly and regularly, pelvic floor muscles will improve the strength of the pelvic floor.

Strong pelvic floor muscles help you to:

-Have an easier birth
-Relieve constipation
-Help prevent the embarrassment of passing urine when you laugh or cough

Aim to do a mixture of fast and slow ‘lifts’
Repeat 5 to 6 times gradually increasing to 10
Sitting with your feet flat on the floor, or lying down to start with. As you get stronger you may want to progress to standing.
Gradually increase holding time to 10 seconds
Repeat 3 to 4 times a day
