Rounding Off One of the Longest Weeks 💛
At the start of this week, everything changed in a matter of hours.
On Monday our little girl became poorly very suddenly. My husband was at home with her while I was at work, and I’m so grateful he trusted his instincts and raised the alarm. By the time she reached the hospital, she deteriorated very quickly — something I’ve seen so many times as a nurse, but nothing prepares you when it’s your own child.
She was put on the sepsis pathway, had bloods, an X-ray, IV antibiotics and we were admitted to the children’s ward where we stayed for three days.
Thankfully, once her blood results came back, they ruled out sepsis and we were able to step her down from IV antibiotics to oral antibiotics — and finally take her home. She had a chest infection - one that she couldn’t quite deal with without the help of the medical team 💛
The care we received was incredible. I can’t thank the paediatric A&E team and the ward nurses enough for their fast action, reassurance, and compassion. They listened when I raised concerns, they supported us, and they helped our little girl turn a corner.
While we were there, I recorded a short video of her breathing — not for any dramatic reason, but because I knew how important it could be for other parents to see what difficult breathing actually looks like.
So I’ve put a little educational video together, and I hope it helps even one parent feel more confident in trusting their gut.
After a week of fear, worry, and very little sleep… finishing the week teaching a Baby & Child First Aid class in a brand-new venue in Aldridge felt like such a full-circle moment.
A positive end to a tough week.
And I’m excited that this venue will now be a regular location for us in 2026.
