It has been wonderful to get back to Yoga classes this week after a few weeks off and to share Yoga again.
A regular focus in my classes is to use the Yoga space to align with the seasons. As we are now in the Winter - and we broke up for Christmas near the end of Autumn - much of the focus for the week has been on feeling this shift in the body and acknowledging the very real difference this makes to our inner space. When we are able to fully immerse ourselves in the qualities and temperament of the season, life flows more smoothly and we can be nurtured by our connection to nature through connection to our own bodies, the rhythm of the breath etc. For example, because it is now winter, we benefit more than in any other season from being in a reflective, self-nurturing, contemplative space, inwardly and outwardly. Winter is the most Yin of the seasons (and Summer the most Yang) so for this term we will be including at least one Yin-style Yoga pose to help us get through the colder months in the most positive, easeful way.
If you are a beginner to Yoga or want to re-join a Yoga class/community after a long break and you are free on Tuesday mornings, you can join the new Daytime Beginner level Hatha Yoga class which is due to start on Tuesday 21st January 2025, 9.30 - 10.30 am at Christ Church Tettenhall Wood. This brand new Yoga class will offer a range of different poses each week, a Yoga quote to help focus the mind and deepen practice and a 10 - 15 minute meditation at the end of the class. Classes cost £8 individually or £36 for the 6 booked in a block. If you can't make all 6 face-to-face classes, you can have access to an online class in place of any classes you are unable to attend.
You will need to bring a yoga mat. A blanket is also useful for extra padding under knees etc and for warmth during the meditation but this is not essential. If you are unable to sit on the floor comfortably, you may wish to bring a yoga block or cushion to sit on. Wear anything you can easily move in, such as gym wear, leggings/joggers etc. You will need to fill out a health checklist form before the class starts.
