The Women's Peer Support Group had a fab time yesterday down at The Recovery Hub on Connaught Road.
Not only had our amazing Volunteer and group facilitator Sarah made an outstanding selection of cakes and mince pies for everyone to enjoy, but there was also the opportunity to join in some Christmas crafts.
I was great to see so many women in attendance, the conversation was flowing and the room was filled with good vibes and valuable support.
The group is open to anyone registered with SUIT or Recovery Near You (no referral necessary)
Our Lived Experience Volunteers Sarah and Leanne are there from 12:30pm - 2:30pm every Monday and are always happy to welcome new members.

Head down to The Grand Palace Wolverhampton , Darlington Street, for an art exhibition of local artists exploring Folklore, mythology, storytelling, and legends as part of this weekend’s Fringe Festival.

The stunning exhibition features work by mattheartist who we are proud to say supports our Tuesday art group at the Recovery Hub.

The exhibition is on until Sunday November 30th, alongside a diverse range of events and exhibitions across the city to showcase Wolverhampton’s incredible cultural landscape.

The Grand Palace is a renovated Methodist church, and the owners have done a beautiful job of preserving its original features.

Now, that’s how you open a festival! Welcome to Wolverhampton Fringe Arts Wolves!

SUIT were out & about in the city last night celebrating culture, creativity, and collaboration. Fringe is now open for a weekend of events and the beginning of an annual creative offer that will shape Wolverhampton’s cultural future.

Developed by Asylum Art Gallery & Studios Ltd, Gatis Community Space , Wolverhampton Today , and Wolverhampton Bid , and supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund with branding by Luke Reader, the festival brings together partners committed to building a stronger cultural identity for the city.

Last night saw an incredible parade led by Kupid through the city centre with lanterns, glowing mushrooms, folk beasts, and performances from Hit The Dhol, Jodi Dancers, Flexus Dance, & Ozara Nigeran folk gods. Kupid performed his powerful spoken word 'Man on the Horse' & students from West Park Primary showcased a communal patchwork banner made in workshops with Gatis community, exploring diverse ancestral cultural stories and themes of 'home'. There was a beautiful and empowering performance from Sterran Dance’s Legacy & Flexus Dance Collective, and the stunning lantern parade was supplied by Gatis Community & productions.

The parade ended in St Peter’s Square with mesmerising light projections by Illuminos. Inside St Peter’s is an art exhibition featuring SUIT & Asylum’s Wayne Taft, which you can visit this weekend. The setting is phenomenal.

Our service offers a unique range of support for people with drug & alcohol problems, and our Punjabi-Speaking staff & volunteers have a mission to reduce barriers in communities where people are directly affected by addiction due to cultural norms, stigma and embarrassment, and where drinking is seen as both traditionally acceptable or forbidden.

Our Cultural Engagement Team have been busy visiting diverse communities in Wolverhampton, with events for International Men’s Day, fibro scans with Recovery Near You at gurdwaras, mosques, and community hubs, delivering health and wellbeing interventions.

We’ve also enjoyed delicious food from Kiran & Sukhwant at our George Street office last week, where they kindly offered food service (langar) for all, encouraging compassion to our vulnerable clients, and for people experiencing hardship they brought clothing, shoes, and other essential items as a show of gratitude & love for our community.

There will be a monthly Peer Support Group starting on Thursday 5th December, 10am–12pm at Rethink's ’s Train Station Hub, providing a safe space to share support & signposting towards issues of mental health, homelessness, recovery, and other related issues.

This space is designed to empower peer mentors by:
Providing a regular check-in space
Sharing insights from what’s happening on the ground
Highlighting education, employment, and training opportunities to cascade to colleagues, friends, and communities

It’s all about connection, learning, and amplifying the voices of those making a difference every day.

If you’re a peer mentor (or know someone who is), we’d love for you to join us and be part of shaping this journey.

Poster by Christiane, with street art by the late Jack 'Wack' Wallbank, whose memory we honour with safe, creative, and accessible spaces to share our feelings.

Congratulationsto poet Saida Chowdhury who has recently published her debut poetry anthology, "Broken Minds", with beautiful cover art by SUIT's Creative Arts Lead, Christiane.

The powerful work contains reflections of mental health struggles, and pushing forward through a system that marginalises Muslim females. Saida is a warrior, and has supported our organisation through shared values and a mission to raise the voices of people on the sharp edge of society.

Filmmaker and photographer Graham Stubbs has made a short film about her journey to becoming a published writer, and the film will premiere at the Midlands Arts Centre - MAC on 27th November in an event celebrating Bangla Month 2025.

She is also appearing this Saturday evening (22nd November), in an event called ‘Poetry After Chai’, an immersive celebration of poetry and storytelling

On Saturday, Kiran & Jas attended Wolverhampton’s Royal School, a beautiful Victorian building from 1850, originally constructed as an orphanage and given the prefix ‘Royal’ in 1891 by Queen Victoria.

They were invited to the school for the annual Interfaith Wolverhampton gathering and were representing SUIT’s Cultural Engagement Team at the event.

Thank you to all involved and for the continued support of Warinder Juss MP who champions our valued work that reaches across diverse communities in the City to raise awareness surrounding addiction and related issues.
