Happy Mother’s Day! 💐

We’ve had a lovely time this week creating gifts for the special ladies in our lives. Our members carefully chose flowers they thought their mums, nans and special people would love, before working hard to turn them into beautiful arrangements.

Each flower was wrapped and arranged with lots of care and love. They may not have looked perfect, but they were absolutely perfect to the people who made them. The pride and thought that went into every arrangement made them truly special.

Today we also take a moment to think of those for whom Mother’s Day can be a difficult time and send our love and kindness to you.

We hope everyone celebrating today has a wonderful Mother’s Day. 💕

We love it when our members share their ideas about what should be on the menu! 😊

One recent request was apple crumble and custard – and of course we were happy to make it happen. We followed a recipe and made it from the freshest ingredients, learning new skills along the way. From peeling and chopping the apples to mixing the crumble topping, everyone played their part.

The best part was sitting down together afterwards to enjoy the delicious apple crumble and custard we had made from scratch.

Cooking together is a great way to build confidence, develop independence and have lots of fun at the same time.

Today we had a fantastic time visiting Sedgwick College at Penn Hall School. We popped into Raphael’s Tea Room where we were professionally served by some of the students. It was lovely to see some familiar faces and watch the students confidently developing their skills, supported sensitively by staff from a distance to encourage independence.

The food and drinks were brilliant and amazing value for money too! A huge well done to everyone involved – you should be very proud of the welcoming atmosphere you’ve created.
It was a wonderful way to end the week and we’re already looking forward to visiting again soon.

Last week we had a fantastic time visiting the animals at Forge Mill Farm. It was lovely to be out and about with the sun on our faces and enjoying the fresh air together. We spent time exploring the farm and meeting lots of different animals, with the goats, pigs and donkeys definitely being our favourites! 🐐🐖🫏 It was a great opportunity to practice our makaton signing.

Spending time outdoors with friends, learning about animals and sharing new experiences together made it a really special day. With the sunshine joining us, we’re hoping this was the first of many lunches we’ll be able to enjoy outside this year. ☀️

National Meatball Day called for a trip to the kitchen! 🍝

Today we celebrated by putting our culinary skills to the test and making our Monday lunch from scratch using fresh ingredients. On the menu was homemade meatballs and pasta, served with garlic bread.

Our meatballs and rich tomato sauce were made by us and they were so tasty – definitely better than shop-bought! Cooking together is always a great way to build confidence, practise new skills and enjoy the rewards of our hard work when we sit down to eat together.

We love our Monday lunches with friends.

Today is International Women’s Day and we celebrated this week with some purple themed crafts. Purple is the colour often associated with International Women’s Day and represents justice and dignity.

We enjoyed getting creative together, making decorations and sharing conversations about the amazing women in our lives. It was a lovely opportunity to celebrate friendship, kindness and the importance of supporting one another.

A great reminder that every person is unique, valued and has something special to bring to our group.

This week we’ve been busy preparing for Mother’s Day activity. We took a trip to Bilston Town Centre to collect some of the supplies we needed, including choosing some beautiful flowers. 🌸

Everyone carefully picked the flowers they thought their mums would like the most, thinking about colours, styles and what would make them smile. It was lovely to see everyone making their own choices and getting excited about creating something special.

Keep an eye out for our next post to see what we’ve been making with them! 💐

We’ve really enjoyed celebrating National Cereal Day today with our friends! 🥣

We started the day by eating breakfast together and trying a variety of different cereals. Everyone had the chance to explore the different tastes, textures and smells, using our senses to decide which ones we liked best and rating them 👍 or 👎
It was great to see everyone making their own choices, trying something new and sharing their thoughts with friends.

Activities like this are a fun way to promote independence, encourage personal choice and create new experiences together.

With the sun shining and the forecast promising the hottest day of the year so far, we decided it was the perfect time to enjoy our first ice cream of 2026! 🍦☀️

Everyone was able to choose whichever ice cream took their fancy before heading outside to sit together on the picnic benches to enjoy them in the sunshine. It was lovely to relax, chat and spend time with friends while making the most of the beautiful weather.

We’re hoping for many more sunny days this year where we can get outside and enjoy ice creams together! 😄

Spring has officially sprung here at Next Step 🌸🌼

We’ve been busy decorating flowers and refreshing our display to celebrate all the gorgeous things we associate with spring — butterflies, rabbits, chicks and lots of pretty blooms brightening up our space. 🦋🐰🐣

A huge thank you to everyone who has kindly donated items for our display, including our wonderful parents and families, and the amazing Fallings Park Methodist Church Knit and Natter Group. Your support means so much and helps make our environment feel warm, welcoming and full of creativity.

We can’t wait to make even more beautiful pieces to add to our display and continue welcoming everyone into the building with a splash of springtime joy. 🌷
