As we enter the last week of February (our month of self-love 💕), let’s talk about the power of gratitude!

I’m sure you’ve heard many times, that successful and happy people talk about how doing the practice gratitude on a daily basis underpins their success. But what does this actually mean?

You may already consider yourself to be a ‘grateful’ person ❤️ You thank others for when then give you help, support, gifts, etc. It’s just good manners right?!

But the ‘practice of gratitude’ is subtly different.

It’s an intended practice that becomes ingrained into your everyday routines and eventually ripples out into everything that you do!

Ultimately … gratitude is a practice of ‘love’ ❤️ and ‘love’ has such a high vibration energetically, that you literally start to spread love with every action that you make, word that you speak and step that you take! ❤️

Practicing gratitude has been shown to improve your mental and physical well-being - research shows that expressing gratitude regularly boosts happiness, reduces stress, and even strengthens relationships.

It supports and cultivates a positive mindset that enhances resilience and overall life satisfaction!

It really is a LOVEly practice!

Here’s the but…

We mostly tend to project our gratitude externally when we connect to this as a practice… grateful for people, things, nature, etc.

My request to you, is to have a go at projecting this towards yourself for a week!

What is it about yourself that you can be grateful for? Your kindness perhaps, or your resilience in difficult times, or even how soft your skin feels!

Have a go at thinking of 3 things that you are grateful for about yourself every morning this week before you leave bed.

It can be hard to start with, but stick with it and I guarantee that you will end this month with a deeper sense of love for all that is YOU 💕

Do you know what your ‘love language’ is? 🤔

Do you even know what I’m babbling on about? 😂

Well, just to clarify, I’m talking about the way we express and experience emotional affection towards each other 💕

I know it’s the sloppy stuff again … but it was Valentines day last Friday, so it’s still ok to be sloppy in my book! 😜

Anyway, back to love languages.

So, there are 5 recognised love languages and each of us tends to gravitate towards one or two in the way we show affection.

Here they are:

💜 Physical touch
💜 Words of affirmation
💜 Acts of service
💜 Quality time
💜 Giving gifts

So … what is your love language?

I tend to demonstrate mine through ‘acts of service’ and ‘words of affirmation’ 💕

For you, my lovely Artemis family, I do this through my classes 💕

And the wonderful thing about this, is that my classes genuinely make MY heart sing in the thought that I am hopefully helping you in some little way! 💕 Win - win! 🙌

Be mindful this week of how you show affection to your friends and family, and then you'll understand what your love language is!

7.6 million…

This is the estimated number of people in the UK living with heart or circulatory diseases (cardiovascular disease).

Wow 😱

And what is even scarier, is that someone in the UK will die from cardiovascular disease every 8 minutes. 😔

February is the month that we naturally associate with hearts ❤️, it being the month of Valentines day of course! 🌹

But let's take some time this month to consider the importance of loving our own hearts.💓 It literally is our engine!

So here are a few ways of showing love to our big beautiful hearts:

♥️ Eat the Mediterranean way - Feed your body with plenty of colourful fruit & veg, wholegrains, nuts, seeds, beans, pulses and enjoy healthy fat such as avocados, olives, oily fish.

♥️ Keep hydrated - Aim for 1.5 - 2 litres of water each day to help our hearts to pump efficiently.

♥️ Avoid stress - Stress can increase our blood pressure, and increase inflammation in the body which can lead to higher cholesterol and blood sugar levels. All of which put unnecessary pressure on our hearts.

♥️ Exercise - Aim for 150 - 300 minutes of ‘moderate’ intensity or exercise per week. Moderate means ‘comfortably breathless’ and feeling ‘warm’, so make sure you can feel it! Try brisk walking, cycling, slow jogging, dancing, my Pilates Pump & Tone class or Yoga Flow Core classes would count 😉 Or, 75 minutes of ‘vigorous’ exercise where you are breathing hard & fast! Think running, HiiT, skipping or my Yoga Shred class 🙌.

♥️ Moderate Alcohol intake - Try to limit alcohol to 14 units per week and have at least 4 ‘dry’ days per week. 1 unit would be half a pint of regular lager; half a small glass of wine; single measure of spirits 🫣.

♥️ Maintain a healthy weight - If you do everything above … you’ll do this naturally 🙌.

Yay … February is here! ❤️ I love February ❤️

Not just because it is the month of love 🫣 Or because it means that dry Jan is OVER for me 🙌

But because something in the air just feels different!

The days are very slowly becoming lighter for longer
… we can start to see spring in the distance ahead … we have settled back down into a more balanced way of life following the craziness of December and the gloominess of Jan!

The bridge between winter and spring 💕

And seen as February is the month of love and all that sloppy stuff, I have a question for you…

What can you do more of this month to show yourself the love you deserve? 🧐

But first, what does self-love mean to you?

For me, its a few things:

💕 Gratitude - Starting each day by saying 3 things that I am truly grateful for before my brain goes into overdrive. This sets the tone for the day ahead.
💕 Exercise - Either doing one of my Artemis classes, or on my working days I’ll walk the dogs, do a 10 minute Pilates routine or go to a Yoga class in the evening.
💕 Health - Take my supplements (magnesium for energy levels, collagen and omega oils for my joints, Vitamin D for my immune system and a good old fashioned multi-vitamin to cover everything else!).
💕 Diet - Try to eat reasonably healthy! I start with overnight oats filled with berries & seeds, lunch is a lazy one (i.e. whatever is easy to grab/make, then I try to balance my evening meal with 50% protein, 30% veg and 20% carbs. All before 6.30pm, so I can then fast for 12 hours to support my weight, digestion system, sleep and hormones.
💕 Rest - I try to have at least one Reiki/Reflexology session per month, along with a couple of restorative Yoga sessions.
💕 Family time - My lot are high maintenance for sure!!! So this one can push me out of balance, but I will always make time to sit with the kids everyday day and as often as I can to talk, laugh and just shower them with love and guidance 💜💙

Reflect on what self-love is for you. When you list them out like this, it becomes real.

Love should always start with yourself, and you bloomin’ well deserve the very best of it! 💕
