The Friends would like to thank the Wombwell & District 701 Charity Darts League for their generous donation of £650 to the group. Your work to raise money for local charities such as ours is fantastic and is really appreciated! This donation will help us to install permanent crosses for our fallen soldiers, both buried and remembered in Wombwell Cemetery. Thank you! 🙌👏❤️

We're celebrating National Cemeteries Week! If you want to show support, come down to the cemetery on Wednesday 11th June to lend a helping hand or just have a brew with us! We're always looking for volunteers, even if it's just for an hour, to help us clean, w**d, brush, and more... Even the smallest jobs make a massive difference.

It’s been a busy day across the borough for the third day of Love Where You Live week and .

☕Friends of Wombwell Cemetery Group have been bringing people together since 2002.

This incredibly friendly volunteer-led group was formed to help preserve and celebrate the beauty and heritage of Wombwell Cemetery. It’s a fantastic way for people to get out and about, meet new friends, and make a real difference in their community.

In 2005, the group was honoured with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service – the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK.

🎖We met the Stepping Stones group at Locke Park café for their volunteer celebration morning. They meet every week to take part in micro-volunteering, from gardening and litter picking in Locke Park to leafleting and cleaning children’s toys.

The group is all about building confidence, making new friends and helping each other achieve their goals, whether its holding card making workshops like Simon or using the skills and experience they’ve gained to start their own gardening business like Martin.

🌹Finally in Monk Bretton, we joined Friends of Monk Bretton War Memorial as they helped de-w**d, garden and tidy-up the War Memorial on Cross Street.

The volunteers regularly take part in our Barnsley in Bloom awards and take pride in maintaining the war memorial through planting, tidying, w**ding, pruning and more.

A Day of THANK YOUs!

We had our Love Where You Live Open Day today! A massive thanks goes to everyone who visited us today, to our amazing regulars, and in particular to the whole group of volunteers who look after Wombwell Cemetery!

Some of our members have been volunteering at the cemetery for upwards of 15-20 years, so the total combined years of service must be in the hundreds! 😮👏👏

We'd also like to thank Barnsley Council South Area Team for funding the event, helping us to provide a lovely lunch for everyone, and Barnsley Council for visiting us, helping to share our story, promoting Love Where You Live, and snapping this fantastic photo of ~most~ of the group!
