🌻The Peace Garden has a new addition! 🌻

Memorial plaques have always been in high demand, and the Peace Garden was quickly running out of space. A waiting list was put in place and orders had to be temporarily stopped. However, we're now pleased to announce that orders can reopen as we have an absolutely beautiful frame installed in the Peace Garden, ready to display new memorial plaques!

We hope you'll agree that the frame is a fantastic addition, and hope you'll join us in sending a MASSIVE THANK YOU to Alan Sutton for his creativity and absolutely wonderful design, to David Whiting for bringing the frame to life with a lot of welding, sparks and grinding, to the Wombwell Ward Alliance for funding the majority of the metal, and to the very patient people sat on the waiting list, some since November 2024! If you were on the waiting list and haven't been contacted yet, we will be in touch.

Thank you to all involved! ā¤ļøšŸŒ»

Happy International Dog Day! We absolutely adore our furry visitors, but what we don't love is when owners are irresponsible. Please help us to celebrate today by picking up after your dog, and keeping your dog on a lead at all times when in the cemetery.

PS. We've reported the damaged dog waste bin at Main Street. Regardless of its damage, you can dispose of dog waste in ANY bin in the cemetery, and you will always pass a bin when you leave. There's no excuse.

āš ļøStorm Florisāš ļø

Fortunately, the worst of the storm won't reach Wombwell. However, the wind's still getting up a bit, so please be mindful in the cemetery. Watch out for flying debris or ornaments/flowers, and let us know if any large branches come down. Our thoughts go out to Scotland, Wales, Ireland, and higher Northern areas today - stay safe.

Please can we remind people that the cemetery is not a playground, and that headstones can be dangerous, old or not.

We’ve noticed a few children playing in the cemetery recently, especially around the baby memorial, but also around individual graves. Our baby memorial is a site where very young babies and infants are buried and should be respected.

Older headstones can and have fallen in other cemeteries, with some causing fatalities. They don’t have to be old to fall. While it’s disrespectful to play in a cemetery anyway, we don’t want to have any injuries or fatalities in the cemetery!

There are also regular funerals being held in the cemetery. People visit to mourn, to say goodbye, and to sit in peace.

Please, please encourage children to play elsewhere. We don’t say this to be killjoys, we simply care for the people of Wombwell. We really don’t want any harm to come to anybody, and we believe that everybody deserves respect and peace at their final resting place. Thank you.
