We had another very special visit today from Simon and his guide dog, Ollie.

Simon came to Cavell this morning to share his journey with sight loss and explain how his guide dogs have supported him with everyday tasks and independence. He also talked us through the full guide dog training process, from puppyhood right through to retirement, as well as the significant costs involved.

Simon explained how COVID impacted the training programme, creating a backlog for puppies and young dogs needing training. After sadly losing his previous guide dog, Lamar, Simon had to wait a year and a half before being partnered with his new companion, Ollie. The Guide Dogs charity relies heavily on donations to continue providing this vital service.

A huge thank you to Simon and Ollie for visiting us today, collecting our donation, and sharing Simon’s inspiring story and the incredible work carried out by the charity. And of course, it was wonderful to meet the very handsome Ollie himself! 🐾🦮

Today, we were delighted to welcome Andrew from the East Anglian Air Ambulance, who visited Cavell to collect our recent donation and give an inspiring talk about the incredible work they do every single day.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance is a charity that relies heavily on donations and fundraising to continue providing their lifesaving service across our region. It currently costs an astonishing £19.7 million a year to keep the service running, something that simply would not be possible without the support and generosity of the community.

Andrew shared how, when the service first began back in 2001, it cost around £1 million a year to run with just one pilot. Since then, the charity has grown enormously and now operates two helicopters , one based in Norwich and one in Cambridge , both fully equipped with advanced lifesaving equipment. Each helicopter carries two pilots, a doctor, and a paramedic, allowing them to provide critical emergency care when every second counts.

As Andrew said so perfectly, you simply cannot put a price on life.

It was amazing to hear that Andrew himself was one of the original people to start with the EAAA back in 2001, travelling over 22,000 miles across Suffolk in just 12 months to help spread awareness and support for the charity. What an incredible achievement and dedication to such an important cause.

We are proud to support such a vital service and will be holding another fundraiser later this year for the East Anglian Air Ambulance to help raise as much as we can and do our bit to keep them in the air. Please keep an eye out for the date, we would love for you all to get involved and support this amazing charity with us.

Thank you to the East Anglian Air Ambulance for your hard work, dedication, compassion, and for saving countless lives along the way. From all of us at Cavell, thank you. 💛

We are just over a week away from our BBQ, and we are so excited to spend the afternoon with all our wonderful families and friends!

It’s set to be a fantastic day filled with great food, laughter, music, and plenty of fun for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re coming along for the delicious BBQ, to catch up with loved ones, or simply to soak up the atmosphere, there will truly be something for everyone.

We can’t wait to see residents, families, friends, and staff all coming together to make special memories and enjoy a lovely afternoon together. Your support and presence mean so much, and events like these are a wonderful way to connect, celebrate, and enjoy quality time with one another.

We’re counting down the days and can’t wait to welcome you all!

Sorry for the delay in posting, everyone! We spent the day celebrating just as people would have done in 1945.

We were entertained by the fantastic Courtney from The Entertainment Providers, who performed live with wonderful costume changes while singing classic hits from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s.

For lunch, we enjoyed root vegetable soup and the famous Homity Pie, followed by a delicious fruit crumble for dessert. The fruits used reflected what would have been grown or picked locally at the time , raspberries, strawberries, apples, and more.

The home was beautifully decorated with enlarged photographs of VE Day celebrations in London, which made the whole experience feel incredibly special. It truly felt as though we had stepped back in time and were there on the day itself.

Well, we’ve certainly been keeping busy! Preparations for Friday’s VE Day celebrations are in full swing, alongside our ladies creating beautiful flower arrangements to brighten our dining tables with colour and charm.

Union Jacks have been made in readiness for the occasion, and we’ve been hearing some truly fascinating memories from those who experienced VE Day first hand. It’s been incredible to listen to their stories, how they celebrated and came together at such a historic moment.

Yesterday marked the reintroduction and grand opening of Tipsy Tuesday Bar! In the morning, we baked some delicious cheesy scones to enjoy later during the afternoon Tipsy Tuesday Cocktail Hour (complete with mocktails, of course). It was a wonderful, fun filled day!

We kicked off our week with a burst of energy, laughter, and plenty of smiles! We jumped straight into some super fun games to get everyone moving, balloon tennis had us giggling, hoopla kept us on our toes, target practice brought out our competitive side, and the hilarious granny pants game had everyone in stitches!
To top it all off, we wrapped up with a joyful parachute game, singing along to feel-good tunes from the 50s and 70s, such a fantastic way to bring everyone together!

We celebrated St George’s Day in full force here at Cavell!

The day began with wonderful live music in the morning, where everyone enjoyed singing along to some familiar favourites and soaking up the lively atmosphere. It was a fantastic way to bring everyone together and set the tone for the day.

In the afternoon, we treated our residents to a beautifully prepared Afternoon Tea, served in true English style. There was a delicious selection of sweet and savoury treats, all enjoyed alongside a choice of wines, beers, and soft drinks.

It was truly a lovely day from start to finish, filled with music, laughter, great food, and wonderful company. Moments like these are what make Cavell such a special place to be.

Yesterday afternoon we made the most of the sunshine, heading out to our sun-soaked balcony for some laughs, fresh air, and great company ☀️ It was the perfect reminder of how good a little sunshine can feel, but also how important it is to stay sun-safe, with plenty of water, shade breaks, and sunscreen!

Painting is more than just a creative activity for our residents, its a meaningful way to connect, express and feel joy. Art allows people to communicate without words, reduce stress and experience a sense of calm and accomplishment. It also encourages social interaction and helps to maintain important cognitive and motor skills. Today we used freshly picked lilac for our inspiration, they also made the room smell amazing.
