Today sees the launch of my website https://muscleandbodymanagement.com and following my hip surgery 7 weeks ago, I am now virtually fully fit once more and able to take on many more clients.
Over the following weeks I will be making more posts here to raise awareness of the wonderful techniques and therapies that I now offer. Due to my issues copying with the debilitating osteoarthritis of the hip, that gradually got worse over the past 11 years, I have built up many skills that I can now provide to others.
Maintaining strength in the muscles is essential, if you want to live a life with any sort of brightness and colour to it, being able to say yes when others suggest a simple event like going for a walk, looking around a museum, going on holiday etc., it can become all to easy to say "No, my ### hurts, I'd better stay at home".
Just looking after the muscles is no magic cure but it can help, keep things going and if, when, you decide to go for an operation, having strong muscles will greatly improve the speed of recovery.
For myself I was out shopping on day 2 after having had my hip replaced, when I found a supermarket just across the road from the hospital. The food provided was excellent but it was from a restuarant menu, i.e. the salad was just that, if you wanted some carbs to go with it, that was another option on the menu and at the time was too complicated to work out.
Anyway the shop was there and enticing and with a sense of adventure, cannula still in place and crutch in hand, I was able to find some wonderful sticky buns and some of those delicious flat peaches that were just in season.
Day 3 was taken up with rehab, physio and massage, along with a walk down to the lake just behind the spa (more of this another time).
Day 4 I went for a proper walk (1.8km), exploring the long paths throught the forests.
Day 6 as the walk had gone so well I though I would step out some more and eventually did 3.5km across country in the woodland.
Day 12 I was back home walking up and down steps unaided and able to drive short distances.
Although everyones journey and issues are different, I describe my recovery to show that it is possible to be able to make a substantial difference to your mobility and function by choosing the right form of exercises and putting in the effort necessary to make a difference.
Exercise is one third body work and two thirds head work. It is easy to lift your leg against resistance, move your body in the correct way etc., the hard bit is getting around to doing it and keep doing it. You need incentive, motivation, encouragement, positive critique and reminding to enable you to be consistent. I can help you do this, if you have the incentive and motivation.
