Muscle and Body Management

Muscle and Body Management Ease Pain, Restore Balance, Achieve Comfortable Movement, Combat Tension & Stress Reducing redness, tension, lumpiness etc.

In my late twenties I had a climbing accident whilst attempting an on sight free climb (without ropes)! After 10 weeks in hospital I made a good recovery from a broken pelvis but over time, work and lifestyle have contributed to on going issues that have lead me to take a great interest in how the body and muscles work. Many years of treatment under a variety of modalities have kept me going but have not cured the underlying issues. However a chance encounter with the Emmett Technique so completely impressed me, that I have now become a Certified Advanced Emmett Practitioner. This technique simply uses touch at precise locations to enable the body to release muscle restrictions and tensions, the simplicity and delicacy of the technique, belies the powerful response the body can have to such an input. Since then I wanted a more structured understanding of the body and I gained that and much more my graduating as a Sports and Remedial Soft Tissue Therapist from the highly respected North London School of Sports Massage. I have also trained in ScarWork, that enables me to treat scar tissue that is not functioning as well as pre-accident/operation. This is a very gentle technique that enable the scar to relax to a more "normal" state. All of the above can produce extraordinary results, however if there is an underlying muscle weakness or imbalance, the results will not last. I have overcome this by introducing accompanying exercise plans, to help my clients understand their bodies better and give them the tools to maintain themselves going forward.

Hyper mobility comes in many forms.

Just can't 'stomach' another day without EDS and HSD Awareness!

There can be a lot of different gastrointestinal (GI) manifestations and comorbidities that can be seen in EDS and HSD, and we don't understand exactly why these things occur. GI issues seen in these patients can be due to: irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), dysmotility or gastroparesis, mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), celiac disease, diverticulitis, abdominal hernias, intestinal malrotation, abnormal colonic transit, median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS), superior mesenteric artery syndrome (SMAS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), eosinophilic esophagitis (EOE), postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and more.

GI issues can often be the biggest complaint for patients and can influence their ability to receive medications, nutrition, and fluids that are essential for managing other conditions and overall health.

Scars in one place can affect other parts of the body. This is one approach but there is an alternative that I use that is less aggressive and does not use surgery for the same aim. Contact me to discuss if you would like help with aches and pains whether they are associated with a scar or not.

I am open for business from 6th Aug so book now to relieve those aches and pains.

Have a treat and have a wonderful relaxing massage, or get your body in top condition with a sports massage.

If you have a recent or old scar that is causing tension, pain, or has a lumpiness to it, have some scar therapy to relieve these symptoms, often the effect can be quite transformational.

I am now fully compliant with all the government guidelines and can make you feel great, like you used to, before the lockdown.

Phone me now on 07428 240675.

Today sees the launch of my website https://muscleandbodymanagement.com and following my hip surgery 7 weeks ago, I am now virtually fully fit once more and able to take on many more clients.
Over the following weeks I will be making more posts here to raise awareness of the wonderful techniques and therapies that I now offer. Due to my issues copying with the debilitating osteoarthritis of the hip, that gradually got worse over the past 11 years, I have built up many skills that I can now provide to others.
Maintaining strength in the muscles is essential, if you want to live a life with any sort of brightness and colour to it, being able to say yes when others suggest a simple event like going for a walk, looking around a museum, going on holiday etc., it can become all to easy to say "No, my ### hurts, I'd better stay at home".
Just looking after the muscles is no magic cure but it can help, keep things going and if, when, you decide to go for an operation, having strong muscles will greatly improve the speed of recovery.
For myself I was out shopping on day 2 after having had my hip replaced, when I found a supermarket just across the road from the hospital. The food provided was excellent but it was from a restuarant menu, i.e. the salad was just that, if you wanted some carbs to go with it, that was another option on the menu and at the time was too complicated to work out.
Anyway the shop was there and enticing and with a sense of adventure, cannula still in place and crutch in hand, I was able to find some wonderful sticky buns and some of those delicious flat peaches that were just in season.
Day 3 was taken up with rehab, physio and massage, along with a walk down to the lake just behind the spa (more of this another time).
Day 4 I went for a proper walk (1.8km), exploring the long paths throught the forests.
Day 6 as the walk had gone so well I though I would step out some more and eventually did 3.5km across country in the woodland.
Day 12 I was back home walking up and down steps unaided and able to drive short distances.
Although everyones journey and issues are different, I describe my recovery to show that it is possible to be able to make a substantial difference to your mobility and function by choosing the right form of exercises and putting in the effort necessary to make a difference.
Exercise is one third body work and two thirds head work. It is easy to lift your leg against resistance, move your body in the correct way etc., the hard bit is getting around to doing it and keep doing it. You need incentive, motivation, encouragement, positive critique and reminding to enable you to be consistent. I can help you do this, if you have the incentive and motivation.
