Big Sky Yoga

Big Sky Yoga Somatic Yoga I began practising yoga 30 years ago. I have taught movement for the same amount of time after training professionally in dance at the Laban Centre.

I have also spent 3 years training to teach yoga. So I harness 30 years of practice and 6 years of training to enable you to find balance and ease. I am a practising Buddhist and a mitra with the Triratna Buddhist Order where I am currently on a 4 year dharma study course. My approach to yoga is slow, peaceful and attentive.

Over the last 2 years I’ve been working with lots of different modalities to explore a way of teaching that combines movement exploration and expression in a way which not only is healing and mindful but also which energises and is expressive. I’ve developed a method which is based on the four elements - earth, water, fire and air - which transforms into grounding movement, flowing movement, and energising movement with breath being the seamless factor.
In movement terms this starts with ground based movement drawn from somatics and Feldenkrais, working up to standing flowing movements drawn from Qi Gong then energising yoga and dance based movement, before coming back to earth with relaxation and mindfulness. I plan to bring this to you in the form of Elemental Flow workshops next year. So do watch this space.

Later this year, to complete my Mindfulness teacher training, I will be running a practice pilot course. This will be the pilot for my venture Mindful Menopause. I am looking for any women (maybe your friends) who are experiencing any symptoms of menopause or perimenopause who would like to learn mindfulness to help. I can send further information and dates. The course is online. The cost is 90% less than a full course will be and only covers admin and set up. The course is for 8 weeks and will run Monday day time from 1 November.

A short yet interesting article on the joy of self care.

We’ve been sold on the idea that self-care means chocolates and bubble baths (not that there’s anything wrong with them). But Cyndi Lee says real self-caring is a practice, not a treat. It’s how you show yourself the love and compassion you deserve.
