🧍‍♂️ Male Loneliness: A Silent Struggle We Must Acknowledge 🧍‍♂️

In a world more connected than ever, too many men still suffer in silence.

Recent studies show that 𝟏 𝐢𝐧 𝟑 𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐊 regularly feel lonely — yet many find it difficult to speak up or seek support.

Whether it's due to retirement, bereavement, mental health challenges, or simply the fast pace of modern life, male loneliness is a growing issue that affects wellbeing, relationships, and even life expectancy.

West Kent Freemasons believe that 𝐧𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞.

Freemasonry has long been a place where friendship, support, and community thrive. We’re proud to offer a space where men of all backgrounds can connect, talk openly, and build lasting bonds.

💬 Let’s break the stigma.

🤝 Let’s check in on our friends, brothers, and neighbours.

💙 Let’s remind each other: you are not alone.

If you or someone you know is struggling, reach out. We’re here to listen.

Thank you Laurence Arnold, it was great to be back in Sussex and lovely to see you again. 🤝🍷

Charity praises Chris for funding children’s mental health support for two years

Tumultuous applause and a standing ovation rewarded Chris Jones when he was given a unique certificate to recognise that no-one has raised more than him for the Freemasons’ charity the MCF.

But the certificate will soon have to be thrown away and updated, says Howard Wilson, MCF Trustee and Chair of the Fundraising Committee, who presented it. He said: “Earlier this week we printed one saying he’d raised £75,000; today I have one saying £80,000, and already he’s exceeded that.”

Howard explained what Chris’s fundraising efforts meant to the charity. He said: “We have started helping children suffering with mental health issues; the money Chris has raised by completing this walk means he has single-handedly covered the cost of that work for two years. It’s a magnificent achievement.”

Chris brought his two-year walk around the entire coastline of mainland Britain, and some of its islands, to a close with a finale event at the Doubletree by Hilton in Lincoln, during which he shared details of some of the privations involved in walking almost 6,500 miles – such as the discovery that clotted cream and his digestive system aren’t the best of friends. Said Chris: “Lots of places are closing public toilets. It wasn’t a happy time.”

The talk, attended by about 100 people, was followed by an auction raising more than £3,000 towards his ambition to raise £100,000. Up for auction were ‘unbuyable’ gifts Chris had been given during his travels, such as a bottle of port signed by every one of the yeoman wardens at the Tower of London, and spirits produced exclusively for the SAS and Special Boat Squadron.

Said Chris: “We’ve drawn a line under the walk now. It’s time to move on and do something else.” That said, he has already signed up for 15 talks to Lodges about his adventures, and is working on a book which he hopes will help others who might be undergoing the same mental health anguish which led him to pull on his boots and set off from Skegness on New Year’s Day 2023. He said: “I’d intended just to set off on my own with no sort of fuss; it didn’t work out quite like that…”

An Audience With Chris Jones: Your chance to hear from the man himself about his 6,500-mile round Britain walk

Now he’s walked the walk of 6,500 miles around Britain’s coastline, it’s time for Chris Jones to talk the talk about his achievement for a Lincolnshire audience, which he’s doing on the afternoon of Saturday February 15th – and you can be there to hear it.

In an event open to Freemasons, family members, and friends, what Chris says will be up to his audience, because it’s to be a question and answer session. Says Chris: “The walk was my life for two years, and I could talk about it for England. But the only way I’ll know what people want to hear is if they ask me themselves.”

There will be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions during the talk, but he’s also happy to take questions beforehand. To register a question before the event, email it to Stuart Pearcey stuart@wordsman.co.uk, and he’ll put it a list for Chris. As many of those as possible will be asked alongside ones from the audience.

The event is at the Doubletree By Hilton alongside Lincoln’s Brayford Pool. It starts at 12.30 for 1pm, when there will be a buffet, with the talk starting at 2pm. The talk will be followed by a charity auction with a range of prizes, including a motorhome for a week and free use of an AirBNB property in Norfolk. Proceeds from that will be put towards his fundraising target of £100,000 for the Freemasons’ charity the MCF, whose counselling service he’s convinced saved his life when he was at his lowest ebb. So far he has banked more than £70,000.

Chris has already started writing a book about this adventures.. In it he’ll explain how that drove him to take on the challenge; the high and low points of the walk; the people he met along the way; and the lessons he learned. Those attending the event will be invited to pledge to buy the earliest copies, and a commitment to buy will mean their names can be included in the final publication. Says Chris: “I don’t yet know what the cost of the book will be. There is so much I could say, and so many pictures I could include. I hope it’ll be more than a chronicle of two years of my life, but perhaps a self-help book for those who may be treading the same path of mental troubles that I trod, and which led me to undertake the walk.

BOOKING
Cost for the afternoon event is £20 per head. To book places, email Chris at cjones@fwlodge.org, and make payment of £20 per head to the Provincial account. Home at last and readjusting to ‘normality’, whatever that is… the wife hasn’t suggested I go camping again yet so I’m doing something right… 🤦‍♂️😉🤩

🚀 Congratulations to Round-Britain Walker Chris Jones 🚀

Chris set out on an ambitious mission in 2023: to raise £100,000 for the Masonic Charitable Foundation while walking the coastline of Britain. With an incredible £75,000 already collected and donations still pouring in, Chris is officially the top individual fundraiser for the MCF 🙌

His Herculean mission took him around Britain, starting from Skegness on New Year’s Day in 2023 and concluding there on 14 December 2024. Throughout his remarkable expedition, he visited 44 Provinces (21 in England and Wales, 23 in Scotland), spent over 400 nights camping, and met countless Freemasons across the country.
