Are you hitting the World Health Organistaions targets for Physical Activity?

It is though 1 in 3 men and 1 in 2 women are not meeting the guidelines.

Physical activity can include brisk walks, jogging, swimming, cycling, dancing, golf, amongst others.

Regular Physical activity can:
- Improve muscular and cardiorespiratory fitness
- Improve bone health
- Reduce risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, strike, diabetes, and various types of cancer.
- Improves mental health
- Reduces the risk of falls
- Helps maintain a healthy body weight.
- Keeps us doing the things we enjoy doing.

If you struggle to stay active due to pain, unsure where to start, or worried about injury through Physical activity, we are here to help you get going.

Our goal is to keep you active, moving, and living your best life.

Last weekend saw Jack complete the Gritstone Trail 35 mile Ultra Run!

This run was self supported, in the build up to hopefully longer unsupported distances in the future.

It was difficult for the last 5 miles (following the final big hill climb), but overall pleased with performance, and was great to get a gauge of fitness levels and areas that need to be worked on.

More Hill repeats, and lots of unilateral leg strengthening work ahead!

One thing that was tested was the use of poles for the hills, and these made a huge difference.... Highly recommended!

It was great to have St. Hugh's School - Woodhall Spa sport scholars over at the clinic last week for an introductory education session on Sports Physio, injury risk and injury risk reduction in their age group and choosen sports!

I hope all the scholars enjoyed the session, and took away some useful information from the session which will help them reduce the risk of developing injuries, help identify when an injury may be developing, and what to do if faced with an injury.

Our Sports Scholarship pupils spent an afternoon at Woodhall Spa Physiotherapy & Sports Injuries Clinic to find out more about the work of physiotherapists working in a sport setting.

The Clinic’s Director and Clinical Lead, Jack Shaw, delivered a session on sports physiotherapy with a particular focus on how it applies to the Sports Scholars at their age and point in their sporting journey.

Along with a presentation and practical lesson pupils also toured the physio suite and gym which is based at Woodhall Spa Golf Club.

The Scholars are looking forward to a return visit when they will be taking part in a strength and conditioning session.

It has been fantastic to know and work alongside Richard Latham at Woodhall Spa Golf Club!

He gave the opportunity for Woodhall Spa Physiotherapy and Sports Injuries Clinic to become what it is today, for which we are very thankful.

We wish him all the best in his retirement, and may that be filled with plenty of Golf and writing about Golf!

Now looking forward to working alongside Brad Gould as he takes over management of the club!

For the recreational runners!

Study on the effects of strength training and foam rolling on running related injuries in recreational runners.

Recreational runners - minimum of 15km / week for 12 months.

Performed strength exercises and foam rolling twice a week for 18 weeks.

Strength Exercise including:
- 1 leg squat
- Forward Lunges
- Banded side steps
- Banded Hip Abduction
- Side Plank

Foam Rolling applied to
- Hamstrings
- Quadriceps
- Gluteals
- Abductor Muscles
- Plantar Fascia
- Calf
- Tibialis Anterior

Resulted in reduction in injuries (85%) and increased days prior to injury (57 days) in the high compliance group!

It should be noted that only the high compliance group had a significant improvement compared to the control group. Showing low compliance with the strength training and foam rolling had no significant benefit.

If you have an injury or a ni**le, book in for an assessment and we can help you get on the road to recovery asap.

If you are interested in injury prevention techniques (i.e. strength training, foam rolling, training monitoring) but unsure where to start, book in and we can get you going with this too.

Our Story

2018 marks Lincolnshire Physiotherapy and Sports Injuries Clinics’ 25th anniversary. The first clinic was established at Cabourne Court, Lincoln in 1993. Since then the group has expanded to include 8 clinics across the county.

LPSIC physiotherapists are able to treat all soft tissue and musculo-skeletal conditions including back, neck and shoulder pain. Our experienced and a highly motivated team of physiotherapists are on hand to help you whether you need a single session or a series of appointments.

We specialise in treating sports injuries and can advise on the use of a wide range of supports, braces and strapping.

In addition we can offer TPI assessments by our fully qualified TPI. The therapist will assess whether your posture, stability, balance and body swing connection is affecting your on course golf performance. You will then be given a tailored, bespoke treatment/exercise plan to reduce your functional restrictions
