All the spondys 🦴🦴🦴

Spondylosis and spondylitis often get used interchangeably but they technically are different conditions.

🦴 Spondylitis

= Inflammation of the spine

• Often autoimmune
• Causes pain, stiffness, morning pain over 1 hour
• Example: Ankylosing spondylitis
👉 Think “-itis = inflammation”

🦴 Spondylosis

= Wear-and-tear (degeneration)

• Age-related changes
• Disc thinning, bone spurs
• Common in neck & lower back
👉 Think “aging spine”

🦴 Spondylolisthesis

= Vertebra slips out of place

• One vertebra slides forward
• Can cause nerve pain, sciatica
• Seen in athletes or older adults, hypermobile
👉 Think “slip”

Every history we take triage your pain for any underlying concerns that may need investigating or addressing, and it is helpful if you bring previous reports or images with you in these cases.

We can always organise our own xrays or MRI if needed.

We can help with pain management of all three, through a combination of techniques, exercises and education.

Setting expectations (especially long term cases) ✨️

We can mobilise things, stimulate blood flow and nerve function BUT nobody 'unravel knots' or 'put bones back into place'. You are not a car and thats just not how this works. We're moving away from oversimplifying terms.

⚡️ Can we calm your body down?
Yes, absolutely

⚡️If you go straight back to the things that irritated it, will it come back?
Yes

⚡️Can we make you impervious to pain however little you take care of it at home?
Unfortunately no.

⚡️Does your hydration, nutrition, energy, sleep affect it too?
Resounding yes.

⚡️Does eating a well balanced meal once a week negate the 2x day Mcdonalds for the rest of the week?
We all know it wont.
Its the same for you body.

Western lifestyle is great for some things, but is often too much mental load and not enough variety for the body.

Bodies need variety.
They need strength, mobility and stillness.

We dont give you exercises to waste time, we give you exercises to get better results. You are under no obligation to do them, but just adjust your expectations.

Always let us know and communicate whats going on in your head and body, as otherwise we cant adapt it. You want little bitesize movements changes? You want a big routine? You want some tips on remembering them? You want a guidelines on what the next stages are and what were building up to?

Let us know 🤍

✨️Surprising bonus side effects when your body is working better✨️

For clarity, we are improving the pressure balance and flexibility of everything *around* the stomach. Technically we are not 'treating reflux' or the stomach.

Reflux is your food or acid coming back the way it came. The cardiac sphincter sits at the top of the stomach right against the diaphragm. Pyloric sphincter is at the bottom and controls food exiting (indigestion). More tension at these areas can worsen symptoms, especially if you have been diagnosed with hiatus hernia.

Key areas weve worked on to get these results
✨️ Thoracic mobility (multiplane, particularly TL extension due to crus of diaphragm attachments)
✨️ Diaphragm Diaphragm Diaphragm
✨️ Rib mobility and intercostal muscles
✨️ Abdominal muscle
✨️ Education on intra abdominal pressure

If thorax (ribcage) is pushing down (slouching) then it can stress the stomach and sphincters.

Going for a walk or youtube 'yoga for digestion' can help in the moment.

What we do:
✅️ Mobilise muscles/joints that may limit stomach expansion
✅️ Relax muscles around the top and bottom sphincters of the stomach
✅️Advice on how to avoid pressure on stomach (waistband positions, postures, stretches etc)
❌️ Change the way your cells produce acid
❌️ Change the amount or pH of your acid
❌️ Influence the chemistry of the stomach

📖 Research key terms : reflux and kyphotic angle, reflux and intraabdominal pressure, reflux and diaphragm function

To book with us:
You’ll start with a 45minute consultation which will include:
✨️ Medical history and Case history
✨️ Orthopaedic Assessments
✨️ Movement Assessments

Headache… or Neck Pain in Disguise? 🤕➡️🦴

Not all headaches start in the head.
Cervicogenic headaches actually come from the neck—often due to poor posture, stiff joints, or muscle tension.

Common signs include:
▫️ Pain starting at the base of the skull
▫️ Headache on one side
▫️ Neck stiffness or pain
▫️ Pain worsened by neck movement or posture

The good news?
We can help.

Book in now for a Chiropractic Consultation through the link in our bio.

7 months pregnant and hurting 🤰

The pain she was experiencing was lower back, outer edge of hips, into ribs and this was limiting walking, breathing, and sleeping.

After history and assessment, it was presenting as straightforward mechanical pain as bub was sitting quite low. This caused the pelvis to become restricted in a forward rolled position (anterior pelvic tilt), causing irritation of the joints and muscles.

We always need to consider PGP with pregnancy related pelvic pain, although there was only a touch of this so we added in some exercises to help stabilise.

Severe PGP is due to the relaxin doing working TOO well and creating unstable pelvic joints, which is a slower response and takes both of us working towards supporting and stabilising it.

However this treatment included:
✨️ coccygeus muscle and coccyx work
✨️ spinal muscles and joint mobilisation
✨️ diaphragm
✨️ exercises for thoracic mobility

Joint mobility ⚡️

That noise is the release of joint fluid and pressure, like a champagne bottle 🍾 It is not your bones clicking!

We find areas that are stuck, and help them get moving. This can relieve restriction in the area, relax off surrounding muscles and reduce stress on surrounding discs and nerves

I dont do these videos often as:

⚡️Adjusting joints can make a HUGE difference to someone, but it is not a magic wand, and the hard work tends to come in after, with how your body HOLDS it.
⚡️It oversimplifies whats going on
⚡️People come in asking 'for that thing they saw on socials'
⚡️It doesnt show us assessing, triaging, diagnosing, rest of treatment, aftercare and clearing the history for any contraindications

Yes, December sees the most flare ups and some of them have a great drunk story, but most of them are on the ‘little’ things.

In December our bodies are powered down, but we ramp up how much we’re asking from them.

❄️Between the cold and Winter solstice, our bodies are trying to go into a rest state so our sleep/wake (circadian) rhythms are off which includes what time of day our bodies release certain sleep/eat hormones, its focus is on maintaining our core temperature (not our muscles) and we are not running full cylinders.

However.

🤯We’re running round trying to get things organised with a million things in our heads, socials, work deadlines etc. And our bodies say enough is enough.

1. Every year. Someone wraps their presents on the floor/low table and they get stuck in that position. Use an ironing board, or raise the presents UP to you, rather than you bending down to them.

2. Playing with them, carrying them, trying to monitor their lack of impulse control. Keeping your body more supple will help.

3. Stress = fight/flight = muscles always switched on ready to run = easier to go into spasm. Make conscious effort to relax your jaw and do deep breaths.

4. The dance moves, or the awkward position you sleep off your hangover. Electrolytes, gentle movements, and hope its not on camera.

5. It’s slow ambling with no real momentum/muscle engagement. Walk quick, wear trainers and save the heavy shopping til the end.

6. Different beds, long journeys, or they’re visiting you and it’s a *little* stressful. Stretchy routine and set your boundaries ⚡️

Lots of questions about insurance lately!

Unfortunately some of them, and specifically AXA, are a logistical nightmare so I will not be taking on any new AXA clients.

My existing AXA clients - I will remain on the register for you guys but the days are numbered! No sudden rush but Ill definitely be off by 2027.

The AXA register (PPR) also covers Aviva, Vitality and a couple of others, of which Ive never had an issue with. If you're with these, check your policies and make sure they match our policies and fees.

BUPA - I am and will not in future register with BUPA, but there are certain plans that cover a limited £££ with any MSK practioners per year, so again, check your policies.

WPA have never had any concerns, they always get good reviews from you!

There are some other policies and insurers that cover a certain amount of treatment which is always worth looking into.

Essentially, as long as we take the standard price in clinic, you are treated like all our other patients, and you are in charge of claiming your own receipts then yes.

Check your policies ✨️
