27 June - 3 July 2021 is Deafblind Awareness Week

Deaf blindness is far more common than many people realise... around 400,000 people are affected by sight and hearing loss in the UK. That’s enough to fill Wembley Stadium nearly five times!

It affects everyone differently, some might need to adjust the settings on their TV or turn up the volume on the phone, and others might need assistance dogs, canes and more formal care.

But for anyone affected, everyday activities can be difficult and time consuming. Imagine trying to book a doctor’s appointment, meet a friend for coffee, or even make dinner if you can’t see or hear very well.

My deaf blindness

During Deafblind Awareness Week we're showing that everyone experiences deaf blindness in different ways. Watch the videos below to find out how Molly, John and Jack are affected.

Share the story

This year, we are asking everyone to share the story of deaf blindness. So, be aware of deaf blindness, understand how to help someone who has it and to tell someone else about it, to help spread the word. The more people who understand the condition, the more we can make life a little easier for people who are affected by it. By working together, we can make a huge difference!

Here at Hannah's home care assistance we believe its important to keep our feet healthy so during my visits we have foot spa treatments, My clients love this and its a great activity to help them relax as well as having healthy feet.

I noticed my clients feet wasn't in the best condition so I discussed this with their family members who brought this foot spa for my client.

I will add I am not a Chiropodist and do not touch the clients nails I leave that to the trained professionals to do so.

SANDS (Stillbirth and neonatal death charity) Awareness Month 2021
June 1 - June 30

Always There campaign
Ensuring support is always there for every bereaved family
When a baby dies their memory lives on. Their lives are always there in the hearts and minds of their parents, family and friends, who will always love, and never forget them.

It is important that for parents who are pregnant after a loss, the right care and support is always there. Accessing the best model of care and having healthcare staff to support their journey can truly make a difference.

For more than 40 years, Sands has always been there; walking with bereaved parents as they navigate their lives without their babies, providing a safe space to grieve and commemorate their babies, working with the NHS to provide empathetic bereavement care and campaigning to save babies' lives.

We couldn’t do any of this without the thousands of bereaved parents who volunteer as befrienders, take on fundraising challenges, share their experiences to inform policy and research, and encourage their family and friends to support our campaigns.

Bereavement Support
We know that as grief changes the need for support can change too. That's why at Sands we have a variety of ways we can support so that we are always there for bereaved parents, families, friends and health professionals. As Sands has developed so have the services our Bereavement Support Services Team provide; we have our Freephone Helpline 0808 164 3332, we are always here by email helpline@sands.org.uk, or you can join our Online Community www.sands.community, and most recently developed our Sands Support Facebook Group, which is a safe moderated space for anyone affected by baby loss to share and find support.

PLEASE HELP AND SUPPORT IN ANY WAY THAT YOU CAN.

THANK YOU

Wear It. Beat It 2021

June 1 - June 30

Wear red to shake it up at work, June 2021 is Wear it. Beat it.

Wear red and host an event at your workplace to help us beat disease. Registration opens in the new year and put it in your diary today!

Sign up and help us make this our biggest, reddest and best year yet. Here’s some ideas to get you started.
1. Wear red
Yes, it really is that easy. Ask colleagues to come to work wearing red, host an event and donate to help us beat heart disease.

If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous why not wear a red tomato suit and walk around the office or perhaps even go on a sponsored run?
2. Organise a redβ€šbake off
Are your colleagues fond of a cake or two? Enjoy tasty treats and raise money for our life saving research.

Bring in your baked cakes and biscuits and ask colleagues to bring along some cash to donate to our heart research. You could even have some delicious red berries for colleagues watching their weight!

Here’s some tips for healthy bakes.
Find out why Anne took part in Wear it. Beat it.

3. Hold a workplace pamper day
Use Wear it. Beat it. to launch a day of pampering for your colleagues. Raise awareness of heart disease while appreciating your staff.

Why not invite a massage therapist, beauty therapist and occupational health team along to promote looking after your staff’s health and wellbeing? Therapies could include a donation to our life saving research.

To receive your free fundraising pack with everything you need to organise your event visit the Wear it. Beat it. website.
