it’s what we do.

It’s allowing yourself time.
Rest.
Space.

Doing something just for you, not because you’ve earned it, not because it’s productive, but because you matter.

Another sign of high stress is losing enjoyment in life.

Things that once felt nice start to feel like another thing to do.
Even rest can feel like effort.

The inner dialogue shifts to:
“Why haven’t I done more?”
“I should be coping better.”
“There’s so much to do.”

That constant pressure wears you down.
It drains your energy.
It pulls everything into survival mode.

This isn’t laziness.
It’s exhaustion.

And it’s often a sign that something needs to change, gently, kindly, and with support.

💗Valentine’s Day can bring up all sorts of feelings, can’t it.

Love.
Pressure.
Comparison.
Expectation.
Loneliness.

So today, I’d love to gently invite you to pause…
and turn a little of that love inward.

Self-compassion isn’t about letting yourself off the hook.
It’s about being kind instead of cruel.
Supportive instead of critical.

Talking to yourself the way you would a child, a friend, or someone you truly care about.

“You are beautiful just the way you are.”
“You are lovable.”
“You’re doing better than you think.”

This Valentine’s Day, may you choose kindness, especially towards yourself 💗

Turning Down the Inner Critic

That inner voice…
The one that says, “That was rubbish”
“You should have done better”
“Why can’t you just get it right?”

Most of us would never speak to another person like that.
Yet we say it to ourselves without hesitation.

Self-love is learning to turn that voice down.
Not by pretending everything’s perfect,
but by saying:

“I gave it a go.”
“I can learn from this.”
“Next time, I’ll try something different.”

Growth happens through encouragement, not punishment 💜

One of the first signs of stress, the one that often slips by unnoticed, is sleep.

Not falling asleep…
Waking at 2am or 3am…
And still being wide awake at 4am, with work or worries going round and round in your head.

Once or twice, that’s life.
But when it becomes most nights… for weeks, months, even years… it takes a real toll.

I know this because I’ve lived it.
When I was teaching and heading towards burnout, I’d wake in the early hours with my mind racing and there was no getting back to sleep.

It took me four months after I stopped working for my sleep to return to anything like normal.

Poor sleep is often an early warning sign.
A quiet nudge that your system is overloaded.

And the most important thing to know is this:
You don’t have to reach breaking point to get support.

February talks a lot about love.
Romantic love.
Other-people love.

But the relationship that shapes every other one…
is the one you have with yourself.

And self-love isn’t about ego.
It’s not about “look at me”.
It’s not about being perfect or positive all the time.

It’s about self-respect.

Speaking to yourself with kindness.
Encouraging yourself instead of criticising.
Saying, “You did the best you could today and that’s okay.”

Just like you would to a child learning something new.

Because being harsh has never helped anyone grow 💜

The week behind you.
The week ahead waiting quietly.
And that soft moment in between where emotions often rise.

If your mind feels busy tonight,
or your heart feels a little heavy,
let yourself slow.

Breathe a little deeper.
Soften your shoulders.
Unclench your jaw.

This moment doesn’t need answers.
It doesn’t need fixing.
It only needs gentleness.

Our Story

Helen Breward is the pioneer of The Menopause Relief Programme, which has gained national and international recognition for helping ladies with their hot flushes. She now trains therapist in her work and has practitioners in eight countries helping ladies to take back control. Alongside that she also offers training in a variety of other subjects, including the virtual gastric band. Helen has also presented her work at hypnosis conferences in Canada, Las Vegas, Daytona, Chicago and London. In May 2018, Helen Published her first book ‘My Menopause, My Way’ a self-help book for ladies of a certain age. She also works with other issues such as weight loss, with the virtual gastric band and stress & anxiety.
