Winter qigong refers to specific practices within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that align with the season's energy, which is associated with the water element, the kidneys, and bladder. The focus is on conserving energy, fostering inner stillness, and strengthening vitality to maintain warmth and immune health during the cold months.

Core Principles and Focus
Energy Conservation: Winter is a time of maximum Yin energy, encouraging inward reflection and rest, much like nature at this time of year. Qigong practices emphasise stillness, longer sleep, and gentle movement to conserve the body's vital Qi (life force energy).

Kidney Health: The kidneys are considered the foundation of all Yin and Yang energy in the body. Winter qigong focuses on tonifying kidney Qi to strengthen the lower back, build the lower Dantian (energy centre), and boost overall resilience and longevity.

Balancing Emotions: Practices are designed to help transform negative emotions associated with the water element, such as fear, depression, or fright, into positive qualities like will, creativity, trust, and tranquillity.

Awaken Your Bubbling Spring🦶

One of the most powerful energy gates in your body lies… right under your feet.

It’s called Yong Quan — the Bubbling Spring (Kidney-1 point).
When awakened, it feels like energy is bubbling up from the Earth into your whole being ⚡️🌱

📍 Where to find it:
Just in front of your foot arch — about one-third of the way from the second toe toward the heel, in the soft hollow beneath the ball of the foot.

This tiny point has a big role:
✨ Grounds your energy
✨ Rebalances the nervous system
✨ Boosts immunity
✨ Improves posture & stability
✨ Opens the channel for Earth Qi to rise and nourish your organs

In Taoist Qigong, we place our weight gently on the Bubbling Springs —
soft feet, relaxed mind, energy sinking, spirit rising.
Through this, the body becomes rooted, calm, and alive.
You don’t just stand — you plug into the Earth like a living battery 🔌🌍

When we massage and tap this point , we bring awareness and warmth into it — opening the channel and connecting more deeply with Earth energy.

Stand tall.
Soften your feet.
Breathe deep into your belly.
Feel the ground feeding you — not holding you.

That’s the Bubbling Spring awakening✨

Shibashi Set 2 - Move 14 - ''Embrace the moon''

Tonight’s November SUPER full moon, the last before the winter solstice, is known as the “Full Frost Moon”, after the frost that appears on the grass.
It is also most commonly referred to as the “Beaver Moon”. At this time of year, beavers are busy building dams and storing food in preparation for the long, cold winter ahead.

By Embracing November’s Moon allows one a period of reflection, cleansing and renewal. The tradition was to let go of accumulated possessions and emotions in preparation for a lighter start to the coming New year.

It is widely believed that many Halloween traditions originated from ancient Celtic harvest festivals, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain.
Samhain marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter or the ‘darker half’ of the year.” This is about halfway between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. Winter is usually the coldest and most Yin time of the year. The days are shorter, colder, darker, and usually damp.
In TCM, it's linked to the Water element, which is about stillness, inner strength and conserving and storing energy, like a hibernating bear. In the winter months, qi flow is more easily affected in Water organs and meridians kidneys and urinary bladder, which affect how we use energy, regulate our temperatures, and manage our stress levels.
Put simply, it means earth-based celebrations; celebrating in connection with the rhythms, cycles and seasons of the earth.

Zhàn zhuāng (站樁), commonly translated as "standing post," is a fundamental training method found in many traditional Chinese martial arts and qigong systems. At first glance, the practice may appear deceptively simple: the practitioner stands motionless, often in a posture resembling the embrace of a tree. Yet within this apparent stillness lies a deeply transformative method of cultivating internal strength, structural integrity, and mental focus.
