PARKINSON AWARENESS MONTH - APRIL

Studies have shown that regular practice of Tai Chi and Qigong can help people living with Parkinson’s to improve their walking, stand taller with better posture, improve balance and reduce the risk of falls. These gentle, flowing movements can also help build confidence, coordination and overall wellbeing.

To support Parkinson Awareness Month, during the week commencing 13th–17th April, I will donate £1 for every attendee who joins my classes that week.

By taking part, you’ll not only be doing something positive for your own health and wellbeing, but also helping to raise awareness and support for those affected by Parkinson’s.

Everyone is welcome, whether you are new to Tai Chi and Qigong or have practised before.

Please join me and bring your friends!!!!!

🤔 What is the difference between Qigong and Yoga?

💡 Qigong and Yoga are both powerful mind-body practices, but each offers its own path to wellness.

Yoga typically uses structured postures, stretching, and breathwork to build strength, stability, and flexibility. Qigong uses gentle, flowing movements paired with intentional breathing to move energy through the body, regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, and support emotional balance.

People often find Qigong more accessible, especially if they’re looking for low-impact, calming, beginner-friendly movement.

🌸 SPRING EQUINOX • 20TH MARCH 🌸

The Spring Equinox has arrived — a moment of perfect balance between the cold Yin of winter and the rising warmth of Yang. A turning point. A gentle awakening.

Nature is stirring from its winter rest, bursting into new life and fresh beginnings. Just as the world around us renews, this is our invitation to cleanse, rejuvenate, and reconnect.

✨ Spring is the season of awakening energy
✨ A time to move, stretch, and release
✨ A chance to nurture body, mind, and spirit

Through Qi Gong, we align with the natural flow — grounding ourselves while allowing our energy to rise and expand.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine:
🌿 Spring is linked to the Wood element
🌿 Connected to the Liver & Gallbladder meridians
🌿 The Liver supports the smooth flow of Qi (vital energy)

At the Equinox:
☯️ Yin & Yang are in harmony — the perfect time to restore balance
🌱 Rising Yang energy encourages movement, flexibility & emotional release

When energy becomes stuck, you may notice:
• Irritability or anger
• Muscle or tendon tension
• Digestive sluggishness

Take this moment to pause, breathe, and realign.
Awaken your energy. Move with intention. Embrace the season of renewal. 🌿✨

Today at the Wootton class, we revisited the Shibashi Set 2, where the real refinement happens. Slowing things down to focus on transitions and hand positions can completely change how the sequence feels—not just physically, but energetically too. Those “in-between” movements are where flow either breaks or becomes seamless.

Ending with a meditation flow of set 2 and Zhan Zhuang (tree pose). A powerful way to settle everything you’d just practised. Standing like that, especially after movement, really lets the body integrate—legs rooting, spine lengthening, breath softening, tying it into the Spring Equinox and the Wood element

Wood energy is about growth, expansion, and direction
It connects with the liver and gallbladder meridians
There’s that sense of rising upward—just like your posture in Zhan Zhuang
So finishing in stillness, while holding that upward, expansive structure, fits perfectly with the seasonal shift.

Today at our Lake/Sandown class, we explored the beautiful practice of silk reeling 🌿

This gentle Qigong technique focuses on uniting intention and breath through slow, spiralling movements. Inspired by the process of drawing silk from a cocoon, silk reeling involves continuous, circular motions of the arms, wrists, and whole body.

By moving with awareness and flow, we help to:

✨ Improve joint mobility and flexibility
✨ Ease stiffness and discomfort
✨ Gently stretch ligaments and tendons
✨ Encourage a smooth, balanced flow of energy throughout the body

A calm, mindful practice with powerful benefits 💫
