*Recommended books by a functional dentist*
Itâs no secret that I have jaw issues, in fact one side of my jaw is a whole centimetre longer (!) which affects the temporal mandibular joint and the top vertebrae of my neck C1, causing postural issues & headaches.
If you have any of the following, seeing a functional dentist might be helpful, usually working alongside an osteopath or chiropractor if you have postural issues too.
A narrow, long face
Gappy (at the side) smile, gums and back teeth visible
A clearly asymmetrical face
An over or under bite
Any restriction in your jaw opening or side to side
Chronic headaches / migraines
Chronic neck pain
In an ideal world, you get treatment from childhood as itâs easier to correct any issues than as an adult but itâs not impossible as an adult to see some pretty impressive results both in terms of pain reduction and appearance.
I always like to look at things from a holistic point of view where possible and try and find the least invasive approach to solving a problem. And voilĂ enter the world of functional dentistry and myofunctional therapy - itâs still all quite new to me but if anyone is interested, drop me a message and I can share the little that I have learnt.
