I'm grateful to have received another five star Google review from a family that I had the privilege to serve recently at The Vale Crematorium. Thank you to Lee Russell of Lee Russell Independent Funeral Directors for recommending me. I've worked with Lee on a number of occasions now and I love the care and attention that he provides to the families he looks after.

Today I had the pleasure of being a guest at the Chapel Dedication and Blessing of Merstow Green Funeral Home, Worcester, attended by the Deputy Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Matt Lamb. The dedication was performed by Rev Rosie Moss and I had the privilege of reading a poem. The poem I read was "The Dash" by Linda Ellis. It's a popular choice for funerals, but also has something to say to the living.

I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on the tombstone
from the beginning...to the end.

He noted that first came the date of birth
and spoke the following date with tears,
but he said what mattered most of all
was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time
that they spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved them
know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own --
the cars...the house...the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our dash.

So, think about this long and hard.
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left
that can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
to consider what's true and real,
and always try to understand
the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger
and show appreciation more,
and love the people in our lives
like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect
and more often wear a smile,
remembering this special dash
might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy is being read
with your life's actions to rehash,
would you be proud of the things they say
about how you spent YOUR dash?

Thank you to Merstow Green for inviting me!

Back in February, I had the privilege of delivering a eulogy for a young man in the beer garden of The Brewers Arms Worcester. Today it was an honour to be invited back by his family and friends to speak at the Ben Price Memorial Swim at the Watersedge.club in Bishampton. I'm afraid I didn't do the cold water swim, but it was a great afternoon and it was a real joy to meet some familiar faces again!

It was an honour to be asked to officiate at the Celebration of Life for a much loved lady last week. The lady loved Christmas and the request was for the ceremony to have a Christmas theme. I was asked to lead the ceremony wearing a Christmas jumper and most people attending (standing room only) wore one too. When I met with the family beforehand, they also asked if I could let my beard grow a little. I couldn't get the full Santa effect in the time that I had, but it was longer than I normally have it! Also going the extra mile for the family were Jo, Debra and the team at Bayley Brothers Funeral Homes & Memorial Consultants Herefordshire who arranged for a Christmas tree with lights to be put up in the chapel and Jo even wore tinsel round her hat.
It was touching to receive such encouraging feedback from the family by email. but more surprising to receive a call from someone who had been there, who took the trouble to Google me and called me to tell me what a good job I had done.
When I embarked on my Celebrancy journey, I'm not sure that "amazing" was a word that I was expecting to hear, but it comes up regularly. However, the amazing thing from my point of view is the privilege of being able to serve bereaved families in a way that helps them process their grief and say goodbye in a way that best suits them. Two services at Hereford Crematorium today, both working alongside Bayley Brothers Funeral Directors. First for a lovely lady who was the heart of her family for many years, the second for a highly inventive gentleman who, when I was chatting to his family, reminded me of my late father in law.

First time officiating at Rowley Regis Crematorium this morning. I arrived early and, as there was no one in the chapel before me, the attendant showed me round. Grateful for the opportunity to officiate at the service for a lovely 91 year old lady who was the heart of her family. Good to work alongside Liam and the team at F.P Gaunt & Sons Ltd again who were excellent as always.

Yesterday I made the trip to Thimblemill Cemetery in Smethwick where I had the privilege to serve a young family and help them say goodbye to their little one. Impressed by the care shown by Aimee and the team at F.P Gaunt & Sons Ltd.

I was sorting through some stuff a couple of weeks ago and I came across an old box marked with the details of a jeweller in my hometown. Inside was my Mum's "sweetheart brooch" - they're regimental badges that members of the armed forces would give to their loved ones while they were overseas. My Dad was in the Royal Artillery and gave it to my Mum when he went off to the Second World War. I hadn't seen it in a while so I put it on my desk to give it a clean.
Strangely enough, the very next day I had a phone call from a lady who asked if I would officiate at her uncle's funeral - he had served in the Royal Artillery!
It was an honour to officiate at this ceremony at Worcester Crematorium today, made even more special by the fact that Antonio Socci was there to sound the Last Post, together with a Standard Bearer from the Royal British Legion Worcestershire.
It seemed entirely appropriate to wear my Mum's brooch...
