🚨 Safety Tip: Dealing with a Choking Incident 🚨
🆘 Act Fast, Save a Life! 🆘
🚨 Choking can happen unexpectedly, but knowing how to respond can make all the difference! Here's a simple step-by-step guide to help you handle an adult choking emergency.
1️⃣ ASSESS THE SITUATION: Stay calm and quickly determine if the person is truly choking. Ask the person “Are you Choking?” They may display signs of distress, difficulty breathing, or inability to speak.
2️⃣ BACK BLOWS & ABDOMINAL THRUSTS: If the person is conscious and unable to cough forcefully, stand slightly behind them. Provide five back blows between the shoulder blades using the heel of your hand. If that doesn't work, move to perform five quick abdominal thrusts by placing your hands above the navel and applying inward and upward pressure. Repeat as necessary.
3️⃣ CONTINUE MONITORING: Repeat five back blows and five abdominal thrusts until the obstruction clears. Be prepared to perform CPR if they become unresponsive.
4️⃣ CALL FOR HELP: Dial emergency services immediately or instruct someone nearby to do so. Time is of the essence, and professional assistance may be needed.
