I'm reading and listening to so many things about neurodiversity. The more I understand my diagnosis the more I develop my perspective and three things I would like to share are:
1) I don't feel like my Neurodivergence is a "superpower". It can be amazing at times but also it is very challenging. My brain works differently to many people and navigating a world that is not designed for my brain has been severely damaging at times. Stop telling me this is a "superpower" please.
2) There is no fad... the increase in diagnosis is due to increased awareness. Do not diminish someone's diagnosis. For many of us it is hugely validating and saves lives. Maybe instead, think about how so many people have been let down for so long and how many lives could have been saved if people understood the signs of neurodivergence and how to support us...
3) There is nothing "wrong", we are not "broken", our brains work differently to "the norm". Everyone thinks differently, we are a neuro-diverse society... people need to understand and support this.
