In , happy birthday Visakh, what a week you have had, 1 year clinic anniversary too.

You have an amazing clinic, incredibly lovely team, supporting family. A flagship clinic for wound care in Trivandrum - probably the best in Kerala.

You are all amazing, and I am honoured to have met you!

(Be glad I didn’t post foot photos here!!😵 pm if you want to see some juicy ones….!)

I’m not sure if you realise how important it is to see someone for your feet.

These stats are just for diabetic feet in India.

Horrific stats. If they would just have some way they could see someone or get early footcare advice BEFORE THE ULCERS EVEN START, then we could literally save lives.

We need everything that makes a good diabetic foot assessment from basic to gold standard.

Neuro test instruments, Toe pressure kits, gait pressure systems, good ways to offload - whether that’s through ?? Please get in touch or other ways - we need good footwear, ie a flip flop or sandal that we can adjust to offload bespoke easily.
Maybe might have innovative ideas?

It takes a village not 1 person - we can do this TOGTHER …!!!

Advice always appreciated .g.armstrong

Today we went into a room that was for a board meeting.
I thought oh this is nice… small group.

After a drink we were ushered into another room… when I opened the door… this is what I saw. 200 people… or more. Try and count them and let me know…

I spoke to these student medics and Drs and staff for

I explained a diabetic foot assessment, along the IWGDF guidelines, Doppler waveforms and sounds, WIFI, toe pressures doing TBPI, pressure scan using , offloading, recommendations for reassessments, and basically everything to do with how to prevent a diabetic foot ulcer and advice for patient, because ulcers turn into amputations and 70-85% of amputees die within 5 years…

I spoke for 1 hour. Well, there’s a lot to say!!
massive thanks to and and .apssuri for giving me the stage and being pivotal in encouraging me and being such amazing supporters.

I have met many new faces and have new great friends - .apssuri .prathyusha_dermatologist
And many more.

I did a talk to explain the impact of regular assessments to avoid ulcers which would include vascular assessments, toe pressures, plantar pressures using technology and offloading.

It’s been such a treat to go out with the faculty of the conference for meal, Starbucks, beach, monsoon! 😁

The future is exciting for the diabetic foot!!
Watch this space!!

April is National Foot Health Awareness Month! 🦶🏽

In England alone, 28 people a day, 10,000+ a year, have a toe, foot or leg amputated and only 50% of patients survive for 2 years after major amputations. This needs to change! 😳

Footscan pressure measurement is a vital component of the care and treatment of diabetic patients, and with hundreds of equipped expert clinicians nationwide, we have the collective power to reduce these numbers 📉

On Wednesday 30th of April at 7:00pm, Nicola Shearman of Shearman Podiatry will be hosting the next GMT Educational Webinar entitled “Utilising Footscan in Diabetic Foot Screening” 👣

Here we have the shockwave machine!!

It’s not electric shocks! It just quick tapping!

It reduces heel pain and tendon pain,
It gets the body to heal itself

So really it’s just me tapping on the bit that’s injured, telling your body that it’s this bit that needs healing!!

4 sessions of shockwave and see the amazing effects that all my patients talk about!

So glad this is being talked about!

It’s very common to hear runners being told they must switch from a rearfoot to a forefoot strike when running. They’re told “it’s more efficient”, “it reduces injury risk” or “it’s more natural” (whatever that means!) but this is not supported by the research and there are risks involved…

…Any big change in running gait, such as switching foot strike, is likely to increase the load on tissues that aren’t used to it. With moving from rearfoot to forefoot strike this is likely to be the calf and Achilles. In forefoot running Achilles load increases by around 15% which is the equivalent to 48 times body weight per mile (Almonroeder et al. 2013)! It’s no surprise then that I see many runners with Achilles or calf pain as a result of switching foot strike.

One argument for switching to forefoot is that it can reduce stress on the knee. There is evidence to support this but increasing step rate by 5 to 10% can also achieve this without a large increase in calf/ Achilles load.

As ever when treating runners we need to be careful to avoid one size fits all recommendations and reason through the risks and benefits for the individuals in our care.

TOP 3 treatments!!

3rd favorite: Nail surgery - these permanent solution to painful ingrowing nails - which stops you needing ongoing antibiotics - not good for your gut etc!!

2nd favourite: Orthoses - these are 3D printed using a Gait and Motion Technology foot scanner - this is particularly important because we can make one area of the orthoses more rigid than another because we know how your foot is living while you're walking, so just at the right time, you'll get strength to help the motion.

1st favourite!!: Shockwave using swissdolorclast EMS Shockwave which is the most effective shockwave machine - with amazing research particularly for and other

It’s my absolute favourite - because you don't need many treatments, but you have amazing results and speeds up your healing, getting you back being active again and pain free!
